Title: Commodore USA shows a physical prototype for C64.
Post by: Pixel_Outlaw on December 21, 2010

Here is a shot of the assembled prototype for the new Commodore 64.
HDMI output, Cherry mechanical keyswitches, DVD reader w optional blueray player. Can run modern OS like Windows.

It looks to me like a regular pc inside a C64 look alike case. I really cannot see the point of this.

If it is just a regular PC inside a C64 look alike case I'd seriously consider one.

I really like the old computer in a keyboard design.  It saved me so much space and made the computer nice and portable.

With HDMI output I could quite easily just pick up the keyboard and walk around to any of my mates houses and just plug straight into the tv :)

So it's not so much the specific c64 case that I like, it's just the style in general... but I have to be honest, if I did get something like that and it said Commodore or Amiga on it something inside me would feel a little warm and fuzzy.

It looks like someone is already selling the "Phoenix" from the commodore site...

This new computer though, to do what the new Commodore owners want, it has to be
a) cheap - almost certain fail - lots of R&D to recoup.
b) stand out - fail - it's not even a unique design
c) ergonomic - epic fail - the c64 is ergonomic in much the same way a brick bounces.
d) desirable - non-under-35-geek fail

It needs to beat a $300 netbook which comes with a screen.  Let alone compete with laptops and desktop.

I wish they leave c64 alone(they should make own pc or whatever they fancy!)  :vangry: and they(C64) are remember as greatest 8bit all of times in my view.  ;D

I agree with Jim on this. It is doomed to epic fail. It will highly likely be cheaper to buy a defective C64 and an ITX pc and put it in yourself.

I've seen several attempts to do this kind of thing with various Commodore platforms over the last 15 years.

It will fail because the C64 can be emulated or an actual machine bought for very little money.. Also it's not what the kids will want for Christmas.

just a fail like some other things (the original) commodore did in the past :stirrer:
