Jim pointed this out to me the other day and I couldn't quite believe it but it's true.
DBF was founded 10 years ago, originally it was on a free message board called Ezboard, we stayed there for 2 years before getting our own hosting.
A lot of people have come and gone over those years, I don't know what it's meant for everyone, but it must be different for everyone I think.
Personally I have met some great people and learned some cool geeky stuff over the last 10 years. I've had the pleasure of seeing programs from far and wide, I've been to a couple of parites and even met up with some of you in person.
The biggest thing I can say that I got from here was my current job. I have no current formal programming qualifications and thanks mostly to what I've learned here I have been able to get a job as a programmer.
I know that not everyone will have got that much out of this place, but lots of you clearly care about this place, some helped with cash when I was out of money, many have contributed their code and posts.
It's not such a busy place these days but we're still online and if you have got 5% of the enjoyment out of this site that I have over the years, then you've had a great time here.
Thanks to all of you for the last 10 years!
Here's to the next 10!
-
Yikes, is it already 4 years since I registered to the site. Time do fly!
10 years is respectable number. Well unless we talk binary here but I assume you use that old ten base system that we really dont like here but everyone else in the world seems so fond of :D

\o/ Happy Birthday DBF \o/
I know this forum ... since two years now (I think) and it's a great place that I like to come and see little effects :)
Is not it a nice subject for new compo ? A special 10 Years birthday compo ?
-
Time flies when you're having fun!
-
I'm sure got 100% enjoyment out of this forum, been here since 2003/2004.
And all those years I learned a lot and also I'm glad to help anyone that I could.
Best wishes for the next 10+ years :)

What rbz said ;D

Apparently I've been posting since 29th November 2001. I am old.
Anyway, Happy Birthday Us! :bfuck1:

Yeah, Happy Birthday to us.
I can really second the comments you all made. This forum feels like home for me when
browsing through the wide and wild internet ;-) And although I tried out various
different other forums I never find a forum with such a cool spirit like this one.
This place is special!!!
Best,
benny!

What a good idea!
I'll put something together over the next week, and while I am at it I'll update the database too.

I was on the old EZBoard as well. I think I found it somewhere around 2001, I unfortunately cannot remember exactly when. But wow, 10 years running already, thats wild. I have gotten a lot from the forum in both its old form and in the new. I have not been that active the last year or so, but real life stuff have kept me from being as active online and from coding much of anything. Something that I plan to try and change this year. I have tried to support the forum as best I could, and I still think the forum has its place and that it is well worth the time that the users has put into it.
Lets see if it will stand the test of time and stay online for another decade :)
-
Congratulation! :) Its really amazing and i am really very happy that this nice and friendly community exist! Go on for 10+ more years :)
-
Hopefully not just 10 years, but at least 100 years.
Who knows what sorts of things we'll be able to do with Amigas in the future... ;)
-
WoW 10 years, seems that long since i last coded anything :D
I joined back in the ezboard days, learned alot of cool stuff, back then we were all pixel pushing, mostly with blitzbasic, seeing who get make it push the most pixels doing fancy oldskool stuff :D
Hopefully the board will continue, I might not have been very active as of late but its always been a good source of info and there's generally someone around who's up for helping find an answer to a problem even if they cant answer it themselves.
-
Well, Hi Jon :)
Yes it's been too long since you picked up your code editor.. The last things you did were those cracktro conversions right?
-
Hi Jon, I sent you an email a while back, perhaps it fell into your spam filter :( I will try again, but it is great to see you are still around :) We really should start coding again :) I am looking forward to the next ten years, and if all goes well then I will become more active coding wise this year, although probably not in the demo making genre, but still it would be great to work with a code editor and get some stuff done.
-
Cant say I have seen an email recently zawran, been a few months since we last chatted.
@shockwave, yeah think they were the last things I released, was getting into learning all the opengl stuff and shaders but got side tracked with other things and a whole lot of wow playing which is never good :P
-
Time flies, eh. 5 year mark for me, even though it feels just like yesterday when I registered :). It's also interesting to look back how I was totally different person 5 years ago. I've never been that active on this forum, but it has still provided me with lots of lessons. Funny to think that I'm at this moment relearning stuff I learned here in a university course. We're learning how to fill up a polygon or how to calculate projections and stuff.
Lets see if we will have a 20 years anniversity :).
-
Congratulations!!!! To be honest I'd forgotten about the DBF forum but will endeavour to visit now it's back in the ole synapses. My stuff has always been Blitz oriented for coding, but as a pixeller I'm still a pretty good 2D bitmap artist and would love to help out with future stuff if I can/you wish.
-
Hey guys, congrats on 10 years!!!
I remember being in awe of the stuff you guys were doing, stonemonkey, clyde, names I remember... seems like a past life. ^^
Anyways... here's to 10 more! Hurray!
And, I have to use this for absolutely no reason: :bfuck2: ;D

What can I say . . . I have known Shockwave for a long time and have been a member here for almost five years too! :)
It has been invaluable to me as a very poor coder - the help both he (Shockwave) and of course a load of you on here have given not just to me but everybody else who comes onto this site/forum.
A place I will continue to visit and hopefully contribute when I can. A warm friendly place that unfortunately I don't frequent enough really.
Cheers for the last ten years and here is to the next ten and beyond! ;) Keep up the fantastic work.
Regards

Hey!
Well I've not dropped in here for a very long time but it is great to see the place still running. :)
Maybe if I get some time I will finally enter a compo this year. ;D
-
Ye happy birthday :)
-
Very good, lads. Great to see we're still going. Was the PS2 not released in Autumn/Winter 2001, though?
-
Hi, my "Total time logged in:" reports only 4 hours and 2 minutes, no so much :-( but anyway congratulations this community is awesome!!
-
Yaloopy, I going off the date the original ps2 yabasic ezboard (http://yabasicprogramming.yuku.com/) site was set up which was 29th Jan 2001. Wikipedia tells me the PS2 shipped in Japan early 2000, so the forum must have been created pretty much the same time the PS2 came out in Europe.

I emigrated to here from there. I think I started on the YaBasic board in 2002/3.
Last time I checked it was over-grown with spams. :-[

The biggest thing I can say that I got from here was my current job. I have no current formal programming qualifications and thanks mostly to what I've learned here I have been able to get a job as a programmer.
I got a similar thing from this forum (and the old ps2yabasic one).
I taught myself to code at home after school and then one day I got this internet thing, about the same time as I got my ps2, and stumbled across the forum.
Over a bit of time the forum changed me from a young coder who knew everything to a slightly older coder who realized he knew nothing and it really made me buckle down and learn.
Everyone here has always been friendly and a very valuable source of help.
After about 6 months of study at AIE I landed a job developing games (my dream came true) and after that I did some work on a UML tool and I doubt it would have ever happened without the help I got here.
After all my years on the internet this is the only forum I still actively follow!
Good work to all who have kept this place alive :buddies:

I too would have liked to have been a game developer for one of the big companies like Nintendo, Activision, etc, but I doubt I'd meet their standards :(
It's good to see things are working out for people, and that places like this do serve a purpose.

Happy 10th Annivesary.

10 years is an amazing achievement on the Internet. That has got to be a 1000 regular years right? :) Congrats!
