(or demo-ish app) --> IntroFX
If you've got an iPhoan, go to the app store and it's under 'Entertainment.' Or search on 'IntroFX.' The app was originally titled 'DemoFX' but I scrubbed all references to 'Demo' due to Apple's cryptic guidelines against the word.
Notes:
- Scrolling checkerboard/floor: totally cheating. I use textures instead of calculating.
- Dot sphere: there's a perspective problem. Damned if I can figure it out
- Twisty bars: slower than hell due to iOS's miserable implementation of GL_POINTS, much worse on an iPad. I should have just taken it out.
- Plasma square: clipping problem I forgot to fix
- iPad: touches only work in the upper left quadrant, again due to retarded programmer :whack:
A word on the greets
va!n staticgerbil xalthorn dr.death - they responded to my original thread!
FC - though Future Crew hasn't been around for years, same with Kefrens, 2nd Reality and Desert Dream are still my favorite demos
Jare, Raphius,Denthor for their tutorials back in the day
Jeff Molofee because a lot of folks who code in openGL owe as much to him as the old scene owed to Michael Abrash
dbfinteractive - so you guys get blamed! O0
So...some parts are a little glitchy but most work, and with the music and greets it should get the idea across.

Congrats mate! :)
Since this is in "Projects" could you please supply some screenshots for those without an IPhone, so they can get an impression of what it looks like too? Thanks! ;)
-
As requested.
Another item that may or may not interest folks: I'm 52, ride a harley, and have 8 grandkids. lolz
-
Cool, ty!
Harley and an IPhone. Cool combo. I got none of it. haha
Anyway, doesn't matter how old you are as long as you code such cool stuff! And your grandkids obviously got a hip grandpa! ;D
-
lol. You will in time.
The sad part is I've been doing this stuff for over 20 years and I still suck at it!
-
Well I guess when they say "there's a app for that" you have just covered retro demo :P
Nice job, looks ok in the pics, dont have an iphone for a live version but I can imagine it moving :D
-
Well done boogop!
I just downloaded it and will leave a review in iTunes later. Nice work. It's good to see some old school demo effects on my iphone :)
It would be nice if the twister was a bit faster for sure and maybe if the plasma was mapped onto a cube rather than a square. Never used GL_Points before on iPhone, but sounds like I should avoid them ;) Maybe using lines instead of points will give you a performance boost...
Congratulations and I look forward to seeing more :)

Nice Route 66 sign, but who's the dude next to it? muha ;)

Well, if sucky coding really was a problem there'd be no Microsoft and no releases by me. Dare to suck! I think I need that on a T-shirt. That could be misinterpreted though... Nvm. :D
-
lol I suck because I have no head for math. Took me three tries to pass calculus on my first undergrad degree. It just takes me for freaking ever to work out the math.
Coding demos on iOS has some peculiar problems. The graphics processors in these devices is optimized for triangles (and only triangles, + trianglestrips and trianglefans). Points and Lines are slow, so I've had to watch how many I was putting on the screen. Note on the terrain we're not talking all that many dots, less than I'd like.
Twisty bars would be a bitch to render with triangles. Horizontal bars not so much.

Those shots look really cool boogop, and thanks very much for mentioning DBF in your greets - maybe it will bring some more people this way. K+

K++ for bringing oldschool fx to my ipod. Nicely done. Keep up the good work! Voted it 5 stars on appstore!
-
Great job m8 i am going to download it foe my iPad later when i can get my wife off it ....LOL :updance:
Are we going to get an update now with a scroller & maybe a classic TUNE????
How about a Remake OH MY GOD....
Keep up the good work :goodpost:

thanks for the props guys!
Definitely runs better on the iPhoen than the iPad. You'll notice some stupid programmer errors and the app store build turned out to have some different quirks than I'd noticed testing the release build on my iPad. On the scrolling checkerboard, the stars are misplaced. That didn't happen with the release build so I'm not sure what went south. Tap upper left to advance; pretend the twisty bars aren't there. lulz
your wife's playing angry birds isn't she? I get that going on at my place! :vangry:
-
Congrats. I am glad they finally put it through. I don't have an iPhone, but the screenies look cool.
