Post by: Shockwave on April 28, 2011
WIREFRAME CHALLENGE 2011

 -Welcome To The Wireframe Challenge-

This time the challenge is to create something entirely defined by wireframe graphics.

This means that the theme is completely open to your imagination, however, everything that is rendered in your production has to be defined by wireframe!

It is perfectly fine  to add render and lighting effects such as like glow, blurr and sparks to your demo, in fact it would be really cool to see something tron like and neon!  It's cool to cull hidden lines or show them if you want.  You can even use polygons, as long as the image is entirely defined using wireframes. Perhaps you'll take a more physics like approach and build some structures that can fall apart, it really is wide open and it will be totally cool to see how you interpret this idea.

Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing!

If you want to do something with loads of glow, here's a nice Neon Show:

Maybe you'll want to go all Pink Floyd and make a Lazer Show:

Or perhaps you'll take a more traditional approach and make something that looks like Vib Ribbon:

Or maybe you'll make a 3D demo and Define it with beautiful glowing lines like ASD Rupture:

It's really your choice how you interpret this one, as long as what you do is defined by wireframes then it's cool!

:) Here are the rules!  :)

Here are the prizes!

Good Luck!

I will participate (I hope so)
And the deadline fail the evening of the VIP2011 (France)

Yet another awesome subject, can't wait to view all the entries!

I'm waiting for inspiration, while I recover from a sniping attempt at my monitor and my keyboard is missing...  :D

Flash doesn't do complex wireframes at a high framerate, so I'll see how far I can push it.

My entry is almost ready. I'm not sure how I can improve on it before the dealine to make a better second entry, but I'll see if some more inspiration hits me.

I just need to work on a few finishing touches, but the main effects are in place.

Thats sounds great...looking forward to see it.

After I wasted saturday working in the complete wrong direction I have to restart from zero  :skint:

If you know where you went wrong, the second attempt should be even better.

My first attempt is up. It's a ball. I could have gone with a cube, but I didn't want to make something too simple.

Hopefully everyone else will have more interesting shapes.

I'm not sure what this video actually shows but I found it visually very interessting and maybe it's an inspiration for someone:

Come on, you have the skill

Just start it, try it, and if not come to post :D (you know that ;))
More seriously, by the same time, if you are trying you will gain the missing skill ;)

As always I am intrigued to see what you're going to come up with Ferris!  :)  Especially if it's going to be a brand new idea!

I also can't wait to see it - but I'll have to if you're going to do it properly.

I have come up with another idea for an entry - keep your apples locked up.

I am unfortunately strugling for free time at the moment, so have not been able to work on my entry, so it's still sat in the test phase, which does do something but isnt all that interesting or a complete intro at all. Dont know if I am going to be able to get it into something worth posting before the deadline. RL getting in the way  ::)

Yet another challenge I most likely will not participate in either :(  Between working on my game and my day job I haven't really found time to get started on something that could be used for this challenge. Its even a challenge up my alley since I have made a bunch of wireframe stuff in the past, but if only I had the time. I'm looking forward to see what else is entered during this final week before the deadline.

You tried. Even if you don't have time, it would be interesting to see what ideas you have in action after the competition.

Feel free to post what you have - you never know it may get some votes or inspire someone :)

Besides, there's still a whole week left to go in this challenge.

If I havent gotten it any further before the deadline i will bung it up for people to see or where ever it has got to, personally not so worried about winning, just liked the idea of taking part so that I did some coding, which I have abit, also made a couple models for it which took abit longer than I expected and used up some of the time frame.

We've just got back in - I'll have a look at all of the new entires after I have unpacked.

From the looks of the images, they've been very well put together.

Some really nice entries so far - thanks for posting them they have been great!
A word of warning though, the deadline is coming up and you need to post your entries before that!  Especially if you think you may have compatibility problems.. you need to give yourselves time to fix the issues!  Changes will not be allowed when the deadline has passed.  Cheers and good luck!

Have posted my entry, it's not anywhere near my planned idea, which was going to have far more going on but hopefully whats there people will like. Atleast i got something coded and had a chance to make a model for it in blender, something that I enjoyed even tho its a simple shape :)

Well, unfortunately, looks like I won't be able to finish in time. Congratulations and good luck to all who DID finish; my release will have to wait until Solskogen to see the light of day. Far too ambitious for the time period I gave myself. I DID, however, accomplish my first effect goal, which was a world first on Atari VCS (yup, no point in keeping the platform secret now), and I hope nobody does it before me, hehe. Anyways, I had fun trying to push the deadline, but it pushed back a little too hard this time.

Well, there is absolutely nothing wrong with releasing an entry after the contest if you really feel an idea is worth seeing done!
Sometimes, the effect is the reward and when you complete your goal you don't need it to be voted on. I'd still like to see it when finished!

15 entries in this comp is a really good turn out - thank you to everyone who entered the challenge!  I am browsing on my phone at the moment, I'll put the voting up around lunch time today.  Good luck to all the entrants, going to be tough to call the top three this time!
