It is an absolute pleasure to open the voting for the WireFrame challenge!
It's been really well supported, we have a selection of 15 great demos to vote on! Another excellent endorsement of the coding challenges if one was needed.
This time there is Karma and cash up for grabs.
A word on the cash - The sponsorship for this challenge was kindly provided by one of our members who has asked to remain anonymous, I am sure that I speak for everyone here when I say thank you for doing so, it's a very kind gesture and it's really appreciated :)
To keep things fair, here are the rules for voting and votes are checked by administrators)
Voting rules:
- Please vote for 3 entries, you MUST vote for 3, not 2 or 1.
- Please do not vote for yourself or you will be disqualified.
- Voting is open for 6 days from now.
- In the event of a tie break there will be a vote-off.
- Please view all the entries before voting.
Good luck everyone!

Coder : COMBATKING0
Entry Name : ILLUMISPHERE
Description : 3 Wireframe worms build a sphere structure which rotates about one axis. When the sphere is built, they then fight for teritory until the music ends. The sphere is rendered out of Red, Green and Blue lines.
-
Coder : BENNY!
Entry Name : DBF WIRE
Description : A wireframe render of the words "Dark Bit Factory" is displayed, the camera pans around the rendering while an atmospheric tune is played, the render is post processed with a bloom effect.
-
Coder : KIRL
Entry Name : METABULLOCKS
Description : Kirls first entry into the wireframe challenge is a wild entry. In this pre-rendered effect, words come out of a rippling vortex in a 3D metaball type of effect. The letters and the vortex are contained within a wireframe grid.
-
Coder : TIN DRAGON
Entry Name : TRONSCAPE
Description : Some tron inspired models fly over a hexagonal wireframe landscape akin to a line drawn version of the Giants Causeway. You can switch the glow effect on and off which gives some of the objects a subtle warm glow.
-
Coder : HELLFIRE
Entry Name : ISOCUBES
Description : This time, Hellfire hasn't bothered with shaders and has instead rendered everything from lines. A selection of four coloured cubes rotate around, morphing into each other as they do so. They are rendered between a pair of wireframe planes, the cubes pulse and freak out in a kind of spaghetti effect in time to the music which is really hard to describe.
-
Coder : HOTSHOT
Entry Name : Grahams Cube
Description : Hotshot has dusted off his copy of Blitzmax and given us an oldschool entry. You will see a wireframe vector cube rotating on the screen with a wireframe DBF logo. There is something in the middle of the cube but it's a bit difficult to make out what it is.
-
Coder : PADMAN
Entry Name : SHORTWIRED
Description : This is a wireframe tribute to the Amiga Boing demo. You can see a large rotating sphere bouncing off the borders, this is drawn over a flexing jelly-like background with wireframe cubes over the top and a scroller on the bottom.
-
Coder : LITTLEWHITE
Entry Name : DBF NEON
Description : The action takes place over a grid. Everything is rendered out of chunky, fat lines. Various effects are happening here including a scroller and several different effects that run in time with the music. There is a subtle glow effect applied to the lines too.
-
Coder : PIXEL OUTLAW
Entry Name : OUTLAW OUTLINED
Description : In Pixel Outlaw's entry, you are positioned in the middle of a level 3 menger sponge which rotates around you. Meanwhile a wireframe sine scroll announces the greetings, everything is rendered in green which gives a pleasing retro look to the demo.
-
Coder : RAIZOR
Entry Name : BLOCK SCROLL
Description : Raizor's first entry into a DBF challenge is a cool one. You will see a font that is constructed out of blocks outlined in wireframe, the scroll letters move up and down as they scroll across the screen in a blaze of colour.
-
Coder : SHOCKWAVE
Entry Name : YUMMY NEON SCROLL
Description : A tribute to the classic Paranoimia cracktro which featured a wireframe scroll from an artistic angle. This does kind of the same thing, except the letters materialise out of a vortex of stars, you can rotate the scroller and it's garnished with tons of blurr.
-
Coder : JIM
Entry Name : JELLAFISH
Description : Despite only taking 5 hours to code, this is still a very interesting entry. Hundreds of uniquely formed wireframe Jellyfish pulse around the screen, the screens change from time to time giving different views on this neon underwater world.
-
Coder : COMBATKING
Entry Name : TWISTED
Description : A brightly coloured Helix roatates and scrolls upwards in this demo, during which a wireframe scroller which looks like it's being drawn by a laser beam or a projector scrolls acoss beneath the helix.
-
Coder : KIRL
Entry Name : WIREFRAMED
Description : Here you can see a 3D tunnel zooming into the screen, cycling through some nice colours as it does so. The tunnel is constructed from chunky lines, contained within the tunnel is a kind of zooming sroller. There is some interactivity on the tunnel so you can move it around with the mouse and the arrows.
-
Coder : PADMAN
Entry Name : CARDIAC ARRYTHMIAS
Description : A blue wireframe skeletonis contained inside a large rotating wireframe sphere. You can zoom in and out of the scene, and contained within the skeleton is another wireframe sphere which represents the skeletons heart. It beats in time to the music.

The member:
Jokkmokk
Has broken the voting rules by only choosing one entry.
His vote will have to be taken from the total unless he PM's me the other two votes.
REMEMBER - THESE VOTES ARE AUDITED - NO SELF VOTING AND YOU MUST CHOOSE THREE!
[EDIT - I have deleted Jokmokks vote]

Awesome challenge everybody, it has been a joy! :updance:
Had a really hard time selecting my favouites.
-
I'm still having trouble running some of these entries, but I've got plenty of hardware set-ups to choose from - so I'll wait to vote until the end of today.
It's going to be a hard descision, and there are many amazing entries. I might just grab 3rd place, though looking at the coding talent on display, that's going to be tough. May the best entry win :D
(edit) I've managed to get all but one entry working, and have cast my votes. I applaud the efforts of everyone who entered.
-
It was an interesting challenge, wish I could have spent more time on it but atleast I coded something using this as a way to get me doing something. Tho I actually enjoyed making the model more than coding the entry, I fancy trying to make something more complex model wise now :D
-
A good turn out in the voting so far !
24 people have posted 72 votes between them :)
Keep them coming...
-
2nd and 3rd places are looking close!
-
It's hard to choose only 3 :)
-
Somebody is running away with first place.
Can't see who it is? Then vote! ;)

I don't see any stats and I'm logged in.
What do you mean?
-
If I'm not mistaken only Mods and Admins can see the stats. It's better anyway, it would take the fun out of it if everybody knew the ranking already, wouldn't it? ;)
-
Padman is correct.
-
One hour to go - 2nd place is tied :)
If you haven't voted, vote now!!!!!!!!! Otherwise there will have to be a vote-off.
-
Congratulations to Hellfire, Raizor and Pixel Outlaw!
As 2nd place is tied, there will be a vote-off to decide who is second and who is in third!
-
Woah, what a big sucksess for me this time. :updance: Thanks to the three people who saw the inner beauty of my entries and voted for them! ;)
Anyway, congrats to the Top 3 participants. You all deserve to be on the podium! Congrats also to all others, it's been yet another great challenge with interesting entries. :)
-
Congratz to the winners and thanks for everyone who enters and voted! It was indeed a great challenge!
-
Wow!
Thank you to everyone who voted for me and well done everyone who entered and to Hellfire for winning with his lovely intro. Props to Pixel Outlaw too for doing so well.
It feels great to have done so well in my first compo and has definitely motivated me to really push the next entry :)
Without the help of you guys answering my questions on mod players and openGL, I wouldn't have had a chance, so thank you all!
-
Congrats guys, well done!
Another bunch of excellent demo's everybody, loved them all!
-
:bparty:
Many Congrats Hellfire and Co. !! :)
-
Well done Hellfire, Pixel Outlaw and Raizor. All very well deserved positions!
Thanks to everyone else for entering and making this competition a great success!
Jim

Hellfire, Pixel_Outlaw and Raizor - you did very well, and we found it difficult to decide which was the better program, the standard was so high this time.
And everyone else - we did our best, and the competition would have been missing something had even one of the entries not been submitted. It's always great to see what you can make, even if it doesn't get the votes.
-
Yeah, I got the longest bar :)
Nice to see nobody got 0 votes this time.
Personally I would like to see Kirl's animation-entry further at the top because it was a cool and creative effect mixed with an oldschool scroller.
A realtime version had probably won...

Hey thanks, interestingly enough I looked into 2d metaballs yesterday and though it runs terribly slow, I'm excited I managed to get the effect down. A realtime 3d version isn't anywhere within my capabilites yet, but one day... ;)
-
Whew!
What a great competition that was!
The Prizes, Karma and signature trophies have been shared out among the entrants.
The three winning entries are also included in the showcase on the front page :)
Thank you to everyone who entered - thank you to everyone who voted :)
Lastly this has been a bit of an unusual comp because DBF has finished up with more money in the kitty than when we started the challenge!
Hellfire and Raizor asked me to re-invest thier money into the hosting and future challenges, so the good news is that there will be cash prizes up for grabs for the next few challenges too ;D
Anyway, as always a pleasure to run a comp here :)

Although I think it would be perfectly OK to take the money and buy yourself some beer with it - I say thank you for
sponsoring the money to have another prize-money for the next competition and/or keep the server alive!
Thanks a lot.
