I have a couple of things in my head - it's getting harder and harder to think up new ideas though I must admit!

What do people think of this idea?
Is a month too short?
I don't mind giving a little more time.. The theme I have almost decided on should prove interesting (and possibly very challenging!)

Personally I think a month is fine, long enough to try something interesting and short enough to not be a waste of time if it doesn't work out. Wouldn't mind seeing a longer challenge though, might get even more interesting entries!

I guess I'm neutral...  :-\

Here's something to look at though, just so my post wasn't entirely pointless:

I think a month is more than enough. There's always fair warning given that a compo is coming up, if people are interested than they will stayed tuned in and start designing as soon as it they know the requirements.

I really think Image Processing will show some awesome effects.
People can be really creative when they think of all the ways to distort, map, displace, and recolor a single RGB pixel. You have 5 variables per pixel to play with 3 RGB values and 2 coordinates!
Lots of ways to represent an image should be a whole funhouse of different effects.

Going on past results I can't wait!

I really hope that we see some new effects.

I had a really hard time coming up with a theme this time - I almost did a framebuffer comp but I thought that would exclude too many platforms and I threw a few other ideas away too.

As it's summertime the easy option would have been just to run a summer demo comp.. It didn't feel right to do that though.

The challenge is always to find a loose theme that everyone can have a go at, and also for it to allow loads of flexibility so everyone can get creative.   The danger with that is that you have to cover the bases and make sure that the rules are fair and don't cause confusion which can lead to the downfall of a comp.

I have no clue what the next one will be after this so make the most of it and if anyone has any ideas for future themes, please pm them to me and I'll consider them carefully!

(releases face burner) ;)

Not really, but had I not released it, it would qualify. Wouldn't score too well, but there are other effects that can be done in Flash.

I just have one program to get out of the way before I start on this, and that's nearly finished.
