HOMAGE TO THE SPINNING CUBE CHALLENGE 2012

- Welcome to our first challenge for 2012 -

Everyone has seen the archetypal spinning cube demo.  It's been done a million times and there's probably noone here that didn't cut their teeth on this classic demo theme.

This time the challenge is to take the spinning cube demo to a whole new level.  Give it a facelift and bring it spinning into 2012!

You could add more cubes or more colours, incorporate it into another fx, distort it, spin it through time and space.  Basically anything your imagination can stretch to.  The only thing is that your demo must feature the famous spinning cube as its central theme.

Coincidentally I've been spinning my very 1st 3d rendered cube in Flash just about a week ago! Enough to impress myself, but I'll have to come up with something a lot better...

Looking forward to see some new takes on this oldschool effect!

Hi Jace, I think this covers it;

Quote
Wild entries are allowed and you may use any home computer / console.  Anything that is not windows based should be entered as a Wild.  Therefore you should upload it to youtube and post the video as your entry.  It's cool to post the binaries as well.

But I thought you were going to use Codef for this one? :)

Yep, it could be a good lib for this...

Hmmm. I really don't know what to use... Can also make a TinyC5 entry... and I'm actually learning OpenGl... could be also a motivation  ;)

The big problem about using an old computer is that a majority of people will not test the entry on the real machine... and will only watch a video on youtube...  :'(

Okay... got the week-end to think about it  ;D

Probably true but there are a lot of us who have emulators installed which isn't the same as watching on the real machine, but it's better than youtube.  Anyway, as long as you know you're welcome to post an ST entry if you like then that's cool :)

This sounds like it might be fun. I've been wanting to try something with Python and this gives me an excuse.

Hmm,. I didn't got an email notification about this (or maybe I got and was put to spam folder by accident?)
Maybe I should just check the forum more frequently.

Anyway, I still have almost 2 weeks. I was writing a new soft engine from the beginning few days ago so this could come handy for this compo. I just need to draw lot's of cubes :)

I forgot about going up North for me Grans 80th. So my idea for an entry is well and truly delayed, so will put that out in a release soon. Good luck to everyone who entered!! Haven't had the time to reply to all of them, their all great in their own special way!!

You've had a lot on your plate - it's understandable.

This evening I delayed it by another 2 hours because I spent them watching all the entries all over again.  Jim picked a great theme this time and the entries are really cool... I have no idea who will win, there's some good debuts here, some great looking demos and some clever ones, this is anybodies comp!
