You can download a complete remake of the original Half-Life using the Half-life2 engine, which naturally has much better graphics. It's free and you don't have to have HL2 installed. You can find it here: http://release.blackmesasource.com/
Pretty excellent, I'm downloading it now. :updance:

How ironic, you don't have to pay for a clone which uses the same engine as the original from the same producer. Valve will certainly sue or close this project... Better download fast!
-
In fact it's a fan made project, it will be distributed via steam in the future and HL2's Source engine is not the same as the quake engine the original used.
What's not to like... its Free Man! ;D

I am downloading it to see what the fuss is about :)
P.S. Just WARNED you Guys.....It is 3GB Download and just letting you know :)

I just wasted the majority of a good nights sleep playing through the intro, couldn't sleep and decided to give it a spin. It's brilliant! :)
-
thanks for the link mate, downloading it right now :)

I'm happy to see that they have made intelligent changes to the original and kept it similar whilst making it applicable to the modern market. Time to lose some more sleep and finish it!

I was totally immersed in Half Life when it came out. I don't think a game has ever pulled me in like that since. It was pretty much perfect in every way. Well, except for the alien planet bit at the end maybe :)
Will check this out - it looks good. Thanks for sharing Kirl.

I have been reading a bit about this project and I believe they either left the alien planets out or they made it up until that point. :)
Another thing to note is the useless standard jump, in order to do a decent jump (to get on a crate for example) you need to crouch-jump (space+Ctrl). I found this out only after I got stuck. Bit of a weird design choice as you need to crouch jump all the bloody time and the normal jump is completely useless...

Maybe they've done that with jumping to try and make it more realistic. I hope you don't have to keep stopping to take piss or do up your shoe laces.
