hi nikin,
glad you made it ;), i think i might be having a few issues at my end im using firefox with gt650 gfx but all i am seeing is a christmas tree floating around i dont see any writing like your screen shot just a tree on a red background. what browser would you suggest?
its brilliant too have another entry too add too this great comp
-
I used firefox for development.. and it should work... If you only see a tree, that can mean that the files didnt download on time.
Do you hear the music? I sync on the html5 audio. If that doesnt move, then nothing does.
please press F5 couple of times.. that might help with "preloading some files".
edit: Tested it a bit, and reaload does not help. I have seamonkey installed and it has the problem. Somehow it does not start to play the audio.
I use firefox 26.0. Also tested it on Chrome and Midori. Please try to use one of them.
If you can open an inspect console, and could copy me the error messages i would really appreciate it :)
-
hi mate.
im not getting any music i tried reloading the page a few times but nothing just a tree. for some reason its not loading media files. which is strange because all the other html 5 stuff i have messed with seems too load media ok. ill try a few different browsers. it might even be the build version of ff i am using thank you!
-
Hi, Works ok here, I like what you have done but I am not to sure about the Christmas side of it :o
Maybe I am just to old in the tooth, Good work ;D
-
I am not to sure about the Christmas side of it
Hi. I can understand it. :) We all see Christmas a bit differently. I guess it depends on culture and maybe religion.
For me Christmas is a festivity linked to the winter solstice. And as my beliefs direct me to embrace my carnal nature, my idea of celebrating is mainly hedonistic.
I was thinking a lot whether i should release it. But decided to do after all, accepting that my unusual ways will bring me no cake.
I would like to assure you that technically this is a Christmas intro as all and every piece you see was made in the last 6 days :) Doesn't get more Christmas-prod than that. :xmas: :xmas: :xmas:

i was also using ff 26.0 and here is the error it gave me.
13:01:48.015 Error in parsing value for 'image-rendering'. Declaration dropped.
however using chrome it works fine.. it sure is something different ;D.. hey we live in a world with many cultures religions and beliefs i am perfectly fine with that.
looking at it from a technical side getting all this into a webgl demo in six days has too be commended!!
cheers.

13:01:48.015 Error in parsing value for 'image-rendering'. Declaration dropped.
This one is fine.. As there is no cross browser solution to turn off antialiassing on canvasses, i drop it a bunch of CSS props for all the browsers.
And the ones that do not support the w3c recommended one, will drop it. They silently drop everythiing that has an other browsers prefix.
-
ahh found the error :)..
here we go. 13:19:52.674 HTTP "Content-Type" of "audio/mpeg" is not supported. Load of media resource http://87.229.98.161:81/release1/nikin_xmass_music.mp3 failed.
-
According to wikipedia it should support it.
Windows (21.0), Linux (24.0), OS X (26.0)
Thanks for the info.
Actually i was using mp3 for compatibility, but after checking wikipedia ogg would have been a better solution, if i do not want to support IE. And i would have ended up with a smaller file-size.
Next time ogg :)
-
ahh that's really useful information!! thanks very much!
-
An interesting take on Christmas - I'm assuming this uses webgl. It runs very smoothly on my WinXP with Chrome.
Older versions of FF can't use MP3 files, but can use OGG files. I'm assured newer FF is MP3 compatible, but I don't know how long this will last.

Ok, so some detailed how-its-made if anyone is interested.
Programs used:
Blender : for modeling,
Milkytracker : for the tune, with hand edited sample :) yes. only a single one :)
Audacity : for the sound recording, editing
Gimp, mtpaint : for the textures, and the font
obj2tri.php : a piece of php code i am writing, that converts OBJ files to a JSON format that my "engine" can load
Backstory:
The low fidelity of the graphics is by design. As my target platform was my Alcatel OT Fire phone (Firefox OS), which is an entry level piece of hw (1Ghz single core, Adreno 200 GPU). It lags a little bit, so there is some need for optimization, but it is watchable. This is also the cause of the 480px width of the canvas, so it fits on the 320x480 screen of the phone.
Here is a youtube video of it running on the phone : http://youtu.be/Ez3E8pzLfEk
(sorry for the whistle in the audio, and my webcam lags a bit more than the engine :kewl: )

Hahaha. Yeah, it's certainly a different take on Christmas ;) Well done for getting it finished niki and cool that you've done so much yourself (audio, visuals, the lot). K++
-
Thats pretty, pretty........ scaring :o
Oh well, we also like halloween, so it's fine :diablo:
Nice work getting it done!
-
I like the design. Looking cool! But with regards to content this thing is really disturbing. ;) Anyway, cool that you made it in time. The more the merrier! :) And K++ for your first entry in a DBF compo.

In my Welcoming Comitee post (http://www.dbfinteractive.com/forum/index.php?topic=120.msg78613#msg78613) about a year ago i wrote:
"For my personal stuff: I walk the dark path in more ways, than it is polite to acknowledge."
But i guess this is the first time it really shows.
(Except for the fact that i "hacked" combatking0-s code to "eat" the contents of his great advent calendar ahead of time )
So, you should expect more of the twisted stuff. :kewl:
-
Lol, that was disturbingly great and very... festive! :)
Xtra hugs and kisses for you this year!
Merry debauchery! :bfuck1:
-
Thank you :) Happy new year :)
-
I enjoyed it, but then again I've always been a little bit twisted.
Nice work!
