Here's my contribution to the Amiga anniversary compo!
Written in C#, .NET4, GDI+ only. No OpenGL, no DirectX. Just what I could do with getpixel/putpixel routines. Seemed fitting!
Back in the day some of the old demos required a pretty good PC to run. Now that PCs are blazingly fast it's brutally ironic that since I'm using just GDI SO DOES MINE!!! lol :-[
It's a sad state of affairs that those old Amiga guys wrote their intros and cracktros in asm on primitive computers and what they did STILL LOOKS BETTER THAN MINE! Respect!

Nice selection of oldschool demoeffects! :)
Btw, thank you for participating on a DBF compo and good luck!
-
Wow, some nice effects indeed, awesome stuff!
Too bad there wasn't any music or maybe it didn't work for me?
-
Music was going to be too much of a pain in the ass! :boxer: it was lookng like id have to use a lib or do some heavy lifting on my own, and then I'd have to write some, and the only software I know how to do that is garageband! So yeah, I wussed out on the music.
Thanks for the views! I've never figured out shadebobs or a real dot terrain. Those old coders were some pretty clever guys.

Cool demo! It's given me some idea of what to make, as I wasn't sure what the Amiga was capable of, besides the 4096 colour palette.
-
Hehe, there is more effects to watch there. All smooth.
It's funny this is about Amiga but the intro/outro is PC :)
-
lol yeah it is, it's tasm. I don't know asm for Amiga!
-
Nice set of effects. And an extra round of applause for not using any special gfx frameworks!
-
Thumbs up for programming effort. Music would have indeed been nice.
-
I really enjoyed this! Some really lovely oldschool effects in there. I especially loved the starfield, the motion reminded me a lot of the old Digial demos on Amiga which I absolutely loved. Impressive stuff for GDI+ only too! Thanks for taking the time to make it boogop and good luck in the voting! :)
In terms of music in C#, this (https://sharpmod.codeplex.com/) might be useful for the future. I haven't tried it personally, but it seems to be worth a look.

missing music plays it's role... as well as chosen font is not my cup of tea... anyway oldschool effects selection makes me like the prod
-
Thanks all! I'll definitely check out sharpmod, I need some sort of solution for music. I personally like avoiding frameworks, makes me feel more old school, but it does come with some problems like custom font rendering. And 3d rotation is a pain to do by hand and get right!!

personally I like software render the most as it is THE way oldschool MUST be done... anyway we're in the 21st century now and, obviously, frameworks are the most natural way to code without rescovering the wheel any given time! Drawbacks in using frameworks are that anyone who start coding this way doesn't really understand HOW things are done in practice, what the word OPTIMIZE means... But that's my very own personal point of view. I'm feeling like a caveman thrown in a very distant future, unable to cope with today standards!
