Title: ASCII CHALLENGE, PLEASE VOTE HERE!
Post by: Shockwave on September 16, 2006

Welcome to the voting for the Ascii challenge.

First of all my humble apologies for this having taken some time to get together, I guess that it was mostly my fault for making the rules of the competition too complicated.
In hindsight there should have just been one round, and the compo should hav been done over a shorter period of time.

Anyway, to try and repair the damage here is your opportunity to vote for your favourites.
You can actually vote for two products here, as usual I have left out my own products from the voting to make it fairer.

THIS POLL WILL RUN FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY AND WILL EXPIRE 7 DAYS FROM THE TIME OF THIS POST! YOU HAVE TWO VOTES, PLEASE VOTE FOR YOUR TWO FAVOURITES!

:) :) Please do vote though as lots of work went into these products.  :) :)

Below you will see a summary of the entries for the competition with a brief description of the effect.
Thanks so much to all the enterants :) and thanks to YOU for voting for your two favourites!

There are also photographs of each effect below the description in case you need a reminder of what they looked like :) You need to be logged into your account to vote and to see the screen shots.

Please do use your votes, prizes as described in the competition rules, IE post count, karma and a cool graphic sig for the top three will be awarded!

Thanks so much!

First Up Are ASCII Fireworks by Clyde of Gravity.
This program shows multiple explosions with gravity effect and some anti alias blur.
The effect shows multi coloured fireworks smoothly exploding.

The next one is by Tetra of DBF, This is a combination of different ascii effects selectable with a menu.
technically speaking this breaks the competition rules because it uses bitmap graphics, the bitmaps are just for the border, so please disregard them and only vote on the effect.

This next one is by Deleter, and is actually an ascii video player! This is the first of two different video player entries to the competition and this sort of entry was actually something I'd never thought to do in ascii so it's nice to see it here.

Every limited competition on this forum seems to have one of these effects, and this time doesn't dissapoint and is no exception...
Rbraz is up next with a version of the Matrix text effect in ascii :)

Now we have an entry from Relsoft, this effect contains both a plasma and a mapped floor effect. Please note that this screen shot is in windowed mode,
it looks nothing like the effect does in full screen, so when you download rels program to look at it, please make sure that you press alt+enter to see it as it was meant. I am unable to get a proper grab of the screen when I switch to FS.

The next one by Jim creates an ascii video out of an avi file that you point it at. This is the second ascii video player but this one is different in that you can make it play avi files of your choice. Lots of avi files wont work with it but it's worth persisting with because it works well.

Now it's time to get spherical.. we have a plotball made by Joncon of The Tin Dragons.
This one doesn't print the text in rows and columns like the others, but that is an easy modification if
you want to go into the program to fix it.

And last but not least, here is an ascii plasma effect by Clyde of Gravity, it displays a wide range of the ascii character set and uses some rather good colours.

I can tell you that this poll is busy already and the entries all have votes except for one. I think this will be a very close call. Thanks for your votes so far and please do keep them coming!
