Title: Google Vouchers.
Post by: Shockwave on May 04, 2006
When I signed up with the new webhost for the site I was given £30 of free google advertising, I was wondering whether or not to use this to advertise the board or if we should let it rumble on in a cool underground way like it used to?

It might sound stupid but what I'm scared of is that it might get too busy here and end up bitchy like Coders Workshop, with more carefully targetted membership it will stay underground and cozy if you know what I mean.
I don't know, that's why I'm asking everyone first before I go and ruin a good thing for everyone.

Go for it. Unless you have something you can actually make money with using them.

Well, I personally like the idea of the forum being smaller, that way you get a nicer crowd, but yet, the advertising would bring in more people, which is needed.

Thing is, everyone stated getting humpity and bored that no one was posting, as of the small numbers at ez.

As long as you advertise and tell the world about strict no bitchyness, and your mod team is ready to vanish the Trolls And Flamers on your behalf when your not around, then I'd go for it buddy.

I don't know what advertising will bring - more productive / active members? or trolls etc.  I would say let demos and stuff spread in the right directions attract those whose interest is common to the forum. Let the pain's-in-the-ass types stay at CW.  I say no to adverts...  8)

Thing is there mate, there are few of us who use Basic lingos to create gfx demos with as we all know. So, if no to advertising, then how about attracting from the FreeBasic forums. Or even Dark Basic. Google whould certainly bring in the gfx demo fanatics, like ourselves.

Well yeah, I mean we can take it as read that people are going to come along and have a nose when they see the demos, that's the way it has always worked. The forum will trickle along like that I guess. Me, I don't mind, I just provide the hosting for this place which has sort of by default ended up as a little mecca for some demo coders.

What Wham said is what I am afraid of. I wonder what sort of people would join here if I submitted to google... I am still undecided.  :-\

It could only do you good to advertise.  Cliques always happen with busy forums but you have the power of the "ban" button. LOL

Hmm, yep ok.
As Relsoft said, if any gits come along they can always be sent elsewhere.
Ill look into it today.

In fairness, £30 of AdSense ain't gonna get you much.
