Okay, so I guess there is also Milky Tracker which is free  :) . But looks like it does not have as many features. So which is better? Which is easier to learn on for a beginner?

I know this isnt about Fruity loops and appologies, and I dont know much about creating music myself and packages. But there is one that is also free and is a Fast Tracker 2 hybrid for PC, which you can save out into many different formats. It's called Skale Tracker and you can find it at. www.skale.org

It might be of use to you, there's also a forum which is pretty cool.

Hope it's of use,
Clyde.

I know someone who used fruity loops, he made some nice sounding stuff with it.
If you were thinking of making music for demos, as a programmer I'd reccomend that you use something like Milkytracker or Skale Tracker as Clyde suggested.

Yeah, fruityloops looks really cool, but the demos would be what I wanted it for. Thanks!

The url of Skale Tracker Website (http://www.skale.org/) works for me in both Firefox and IE. On that page they are revamping the website but it isnt down, all it tells you is where to get hold of the following:

For the download mirror: Download Mirror For SkaleTracker (http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=%2Fresources%2Fmusic%2Ftrackers%2Fskale081.zip&fileinfo)
For the forum the address is: Skale Tracker Forum (http://forums.skale.org/)

I'll throw my 2 cents worth in here. Modtracker - not supported anymore - but availabale and pretty good tool for tracker music :) Good luck with whatever you use :)

I've tried the FL Studios demo but personally didn't like it but I'm not a great musician so.. but I have modplug to be the nicest/closet to what I want which is Impulse Tracker working natively in XP..

If you're using FL or other VST host programs check out http://www.kvraudio.com/ its got loads of tutorials and free (and some pay) instruments/effects.

Thank, but due to inflation gum is way more then that now!

I downloaded skale but it won't open, so I am obviously doing something wrong. What? I wish I knew. I am such a girl! LOL

Did you run ConfigSkale.exe? You'll need to first, you should be ok with just save the default options and then running Skale.

@lilw4t3rdr0p

Just used Skaletracker and it is superb! If you can get it working . . . i suggest you download a couple of .mods and then load them into that and see how they are made.
Basically you have four or more channels and put notes and instruments in each channel . . . lol!

I used Octamed on the Amiga years ago and Skaletracker is almost identical in its usage!

Hope this helps?

Drew

Ok, I'm really confused!
lol... I don't know what a tracker is?
I have EJay Dance 4 (it's alright for $10 from EB), and... I think it has channels? If they are things where you can put loops (instrument loops or effects) into, kinda like the MusicDJ on the Sony Ericson phones, then I know what your on about - EJay has them: 46 Channels.
Well, I hope your music is comming along great! I do mine for fun, not so much demos as I don't have any demos! lol  :buddies:

@Clanky

If you do a search and download Skaletracker - that shows you what a tracker is. It allows you to produce .mods - these can then be incorporated into Freebasic (and other code) using the fmod.dll
The first trackers were on the Amiga (I think) and made music writing so much easier. The channels are just that different patterns in each channel using different instruments.

Most of the .mods were usually something like 64 lines long and then a new pattern could follow or the same pattern. Im not making much sense here - sorry!
Like i said if you download skaletracker and find a couple of .mods - load then in and have a look - see what you think?

Regards

Drew

It is true Clanky. I tried skale, but for me milky is a better choice. Each person is different, so try it and see what you think. If it is not working for you then try a different one. Both have forums and help. Milky has video tutorials. I am not sure if skale does. :)
