So, who wants to be my friend?

Projects / "puki's" first demo project
« on: March 26, 2011 »
This is my first demo project.

I'm using Blitz3D - it is totally cute and chicks love it.

It has a Blitz3D theme and is sort of cubey and spherey and rotatey.

EDIT:
Of course it looks better in motion.

Here are a few pics:

EDIT:
I added 3D:

But you need 3D glasses (red/cyan).

It isn't that great an effect, but I tried.

EDIT:
I added shininess to me spheres - I forgot to do that before:

The spheres are inside cubes which rotate around them - so it makes it look like the cubes are not cubes but cubes with circles cut out of the faces.  They sort of refract the sphere textures as they rotate - I mention that just in case it isn't obvious from the pictures.

I'll have to load any textures I need for the moment - I don't do graphics.
Music - well, I don't do that - but I have some sci-fi game music licenced to me which I could use.
Doing geometry on-the-fly is probably the only okay thing for me.

I started working on something already.

I don't do scrolly messages and all that stuff though - sin waves  - dot tunnels and that sort of stuff - but geometry - yeh, I like that idea.

Renderwarfare it is then.

Great!

He gets on my nerves - that singing bloke.

Mmm, this may be viewed as 'spam'.  However, I shall vouch for you.

Well, I was sort of thinking more along the lines of doing things in an obvious way.  Like using "Alyx" from Half-Life 2 in a demo, etc.

I'm just used to using game media for my own private games.  People generally hate me for just doing that - ie I don't distribute stuff, I just use it for my own home use.

I was just wondering if the demoscene was a bit more tolerant.

However, I'm kind of guessing its a no for this - but, I thought it was worth asking.

I quite like it.  However, I know nothing about the Amstrad CPC.

Hey, some of those demos are like 50MB or so.

There's hope for me yet.

Small and tight just isn't my style.

Does anyone do demos with stolen commercial game media?  Has that been done before.

Mmm, I'm kind of snookered as I don't do music and I don't have any friends.

I could do demos for deaf people though.

I think it would be exciting if they actually find real yetis.  The yetis may regret it though.

I am still waiting for alien life to be proven/found.

I love this sort of stuff - sci-fi and the unexplained.

It would be a good theme for a demo - the unexplained.  Has anyone done it before?

So are demos still, in general, expected to be as small as possible.

I mean, if I did a demo then it would have a huge filesize - Blitz3D loves doing big exes, it's not my fault.

Yeh, I was nosing about on YouTube - looking at demos.  Are there any demos done by anyone here on YouTube?  I didn't see anything mentioning Dark Bit Forums.

Quote
Dr. Burtsev told Russian newspaper Itar Press after a yeti expedition last year: "I saw markers (half-broken branches) the creature uses to mark the controlled territory. In the woods I have found several artifacts to confirm my theory. I plan to find the Bigfoot's shelter and even try to contact the creature."

No doubt they will soon be entering the fast food chain as burgers.

I dug out a NBS disk:

The postal address was a residential bungalow on the Isle of Wight.  I'm not sure if PD distribution was their main venture as they were called Newport Business Supplies or Newport Business Services (something like that).

EDIT:
In fact, I just noticed that they moved address at some point as some of the disks have a different address on the back of them.

EDIT:
Yeh, there was also a shop which is now a Samaritans charity shop.

So, I guess that they just went out of business in general.

So does anyone here play computer games?

Other than demo coding, what else do you lot do?

Anyone ever take a sneaky look inside a NASA system, etc when they are a bit bored?

17
I used to buy most of my demo stuff from a place called NBS who were on the Isle of Wight.

I liked their disk labels - it was sort of a night scene of a haunted house or something and a cat - maybe a moon too  I still have them all somewhere.

Blitz3D is a legend.

Here, have a free demo version - on me:
http://www.blitzbasic.com/file/get.php?file=/Products/demos/Blitz3DDemo183.exe

It is not the current version of Blitz3D; however, you can do something like Half-Life 2 with it.  That should keep you lot busy for a while.

19
No way - this is cruel.  You have to change it from a teddy to something else.  What about a "Barbie" doll?

Teddy is a no-no.

Christ, that's as bad as uninstalling Blitz3D.

20
I've never been into the demo coding scene - other than buying demos for the Amiga.  I only joined years ago when that "Clyde" boy was squeaking at us Blitzers to come over here and Large about.

So, are there any normal coders here - ie people that can code in anything other than 2D/pseudo 2D?  Say, like doing an FPS game etc - a 3D game?

What's the story?
