General chat / Re: Laptop
« on: June 29, 2015 »
I am on an i3. But Mostly for the battery time. For me anything goes that has a bit of virtualization and can handle 4 Gigs of RAM. For the rest, give me battery life, all the way :)
I think a core2duo with about 1.2 Ghz would be enough computing power for my needs.  For graphics.. the HD4000 i have is nice. the X3150 before was a bit underpowered.
  on your new maschine.

Love the effect. It runs about 14 FPS on my i3 clocked down to 0.9 Ghz, with the profiler running.

3
Nice entry. Runs smooth under wine.

Would be nice if you'd like to test my little framework for Linux...

I've attached the executable to my post, if you'd like to have the src itself, just contact me.

The binary should ask you if you would like to run fullscreen, just display the FPS and play a wotw XM as bonus :P, XM player is not done by myself.
It's compiled as 64bit binary with Ubuntu 14.10 and you shouldn't have to install any extra libraries like SDL.

Thanks in advance!

Hi. did it, sent pm. We can continue there if you want.

horrible, no love for linux. what a shame.

If you do something on Linux, i would be glad to test it.
Running 64bit Arch linux, on i3/GMA4000

good old days of the dbf forum, when people here were making their cool software intros.
Why is software better than hardware? Just wondering.
To some degree all the shader stuff brought back a lot of the "code your own stuff" thing, if that's what your missing :)
Anyway megademos are cool, they give me an itch, to do something myself :)

Congrats to everyone who entered. Places are well deserved :)

So, Nikin please contact Punqtured
did that :)

hmm.. bytheway i actually got votes  :kewl: 3 even. Wonder how come?  :)

I hope we will have more compos this year.  What do you think? A quarterly schedule maybe? Would we be able to produce 4 intros a year? :)

Freebasic / Re: messing with newtons laws of physics
« on: January 05, 2014 »
Thanks :)

lets consider .45 ACP (185gr) as our example.
speed leaving the barrel is 373 m/s ..
Energy is 835 J
Diameter is 11.5 mm
Weight  15g

see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/External_ballistics for some models on the physics of bullets in air. :)

:) nice... what are the respective velocities at impact? (The speed is 0 at impact (considering non-elastic (and very hard :) /again not true, as without mass, there is no point in hardness or elasticity as the poor object has no momemntum :) / ) materials. ) and the direction is also non exsistent.)
Ok, i really should be more scientific in this. So what are the respective speeds 0.00001 seconds before impact? :)
/actually without mass, they would not react to gravity at all.... ahhh fck it :) /

I just like the idea of such a toy :)

Also a question for when/if you implement  wind resistane... If you shoot a bullet straight down.. How will its speed behave?

Freebasic / Re: messing with newtons laws of physics

nope..

Gravity without wind resistance.. then they have a constant accelearation, that has to be factored in.

so if you consider 6m with 1m/s/s .. then 1-2-3   3 seconds    12m will be 1-2-3-4-and a bit    ~4.3 seconds

(yep the numbers arent correct.. but the point is visible)

Thank you :) Happy new year :)

General coding questions / Re: Linux OpenGL Console
« on: December 30, 2013 »
not yet, but sounds like a nice idea.
On the other hand, if one writes demos in openGL then it doesnt really matter i guess.
And i would really wait to have SDL support under Wayland. (in progress. for SDL2 afaik)
Yet another question is, if relying on wayland currently severly limits the number of people you can target.

So i keep a look out for wayland. We are also considering it at my work. But it is not yet there. for mainstream in my opiniion. But it already has it's place in embeded enviroments.

Well, if you don't ask you don't get I suppose.
I'll get commenting it for you and post it here when done.  ;)

Like the attitude :) K++ for you

I like the design. Looking cool! But with regards to content this thing is really disturbing.  ;) Anyway, cool that you made it in time. The more the merrier! :) And K++ for your first entry in a DBF compo.

Thats pretty, pretty........ scaring  :o Oh well, we also like halloween, so it's fine  :diablo: Nice work getting it done!

In my Welcoming Comitee post about a year ago i wrote:
"For my personal stuff: I walk the dark path in more ways, than it is polite to acknowledge."
But i guess this is the first time it really shows.
(Except for the fact that i "hacked" combatking0-s code to "eat" the contents of his great advent calendar ahead of time  )

So, you should expect more of the twisted stuff.   :kewl:

Ok, so some detailed how-its-made if anyone is interested.

Programs used:

Blender        : for modeling,
Milkytracker   : for the tune, with hand edited sample :) yes. only a single one :)
Audacity       : for the sound recording, editing
Gimp, mtpaint  : for the textures, and the font
obj2tri.php    : a piece of php code i am writing, that converts OBJ files to a JSON format that my "engine" can load

Backstory:
The low fidelity of the graphics is by design. As my target platform was my Alcatel OT Fire phone (Firefox OS), which is an entry level piece of hw (1Ghz single core, Adreno 200 GPU). It lags a little  bit, so there is some need for optimization, but it is watchable. This is also the cause of the 480px width of the canvas, so it fits on the 320x480 screen of the phone.

Here is a youtube video of it running on the phone : http://youtu.be/Ez3E8pzLfEk
(sorry for the whistle in the audio, and my webcam lags a bit more than the engine  :kewl: )
