Cool 8)

Looks like Visual C++ Express 2008 it is then.
I'll get that downloaded and installed (sometime this week) and then I'll make a start.
Baring in mind I'm a complete C++ n00b, expect stupid and silly questions from me .... sorry!

I happen to have acquired a copy of Visual C++ 6.0
Will this work on Vista or Windows 7?
Also, is such an old version recommended?

Cool!
All the recommendations seem like good ones.

One major question: with the 'express' version of MS C++, can you create stand-alone executables?

Once we have that up and running for you then we can get the ball rolling... Getting help here is easy, just post whatever is bugging you and we'll be happy to help you until you get it.
Well, this is my first stumbling block ...... deciding which environment to get installed.
I happen to have a copy of Visual C++ 6.0 .... not sure if that's gonna be compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7.

C / C++ /C# / Best C++ IDE & Compiler to use?

Hi all,

I'm somewhat of a noob, and would like to start learning C++

Which is the best C++ IDE & Compiler to use? I have Windows Vista and Windows 7.
I do actually have Visual C++ v6.0 on a CD kicking around ..... is this likely to work with Vista or 7?

Also, on the same subject, what's the best C++ IDE and/or Compiler for the Amiga?
I'm somewhat of an Amiga nut and would like to get into C or C++ on the Amiga.

Hi all,

I'm woody.cool .... some of you may know me from other forums (Retro Gamer, RCM, Lemon Amiga, AmiBay etc.)
I'm somewhat of an Amiga fanatic and have made a few minor bits and pieces with AMOS Professional on the Amiga.
I'm quite good with most inclinations of BASIC and have even made some 'utilities' for myself in Visual Basic on PC (Windows)

I thought it was about time I ditched BASIC for something a bit more powerful though, and think C or C++ may be the next best option ...... also I hate the amount of 'runtimes' that are required for VB creations and the amount of libraries required for AMOS/AMOS Pro on the Amiga.

So, I'm a complete noob at C++, any help will be appreciated when required.

That's me
 :D
