organic thing
« on: May 26, 2007 »
Hi all,

I had a day to code today and back at college I got interested in the work of William Latham

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=william+latham&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

So I had a go at a program to do something similar today. Its not as pretty but not bad as a base. Its 1.5k including shaders etc so could be useful at 4k with some crunching.
Ive posted some images, and an exe

WARNING: exe requires PS2.0 *and* fast graphics.
If you can run it, press the space bar for a new "creature".
Keep space bar pressed for say 3-4 seconds to move onto different looking creatures (sort of).

Could use better rendering for sure. But, well , I'm tired today.

Chris

Very nice!  Runs for me at about 3fps on my X1600 on Vista.

I have to say I'm deeply jealous of your ability to read documentation like that and then implement it so quickly.  I often have to experiment for much longer before I get what I want.

Runs at about 15fps here XP pro, X1650 P4 3GHZ.

Very nice and fossil-like things! Some of them look a little bit like mutated DNA ribbons.

Cool :)

Very cool indeed

Some of them seems like DNA and some like sea plants and coral.

Where we can find the algorithms to do that  ::)

Its my own algorithm, I just looked at the pictures and came up with something. I'm not wanting to post the code yet until maybe Ive used it as its ten lines (so very small), then I'll post it ok?

No problem Chris, I'm not asking for code just the pseudo algorithm to do that, but if you say that you just looked at the pictures, which is awesome job, I guess there's no pseudo algorithm available to search on the web.

Again, great work!

I should add because of guests here, not regulars. I'm sure regulars would give me creds.
