C# Game
« on: August 02, 2007 »
Ok. So we (my friend and I) have all the components we (well we think!) need to start on a basic, yet quite complicated game for the XBox 360...
We have come up with a nice idea, and my mate has some useful knowledge on how we could get it all down and working.
I'm not sure whether my mate would like it if I told our little game story and modes... so, when we start on it and get some considerable progress, then I'm sure you guys will get in the loop! I'd love to involve you, as his knowledge is fair... mine isn't! So, in the case of having to ask for help - that's a definent!

He told me today what he was planning! And boy... I wet my pants haha! Great idea. I don't think it has been done before (the modes that is lol).

--I am getting a labtop this Sunday, so I'll be able to put on Visual C# Express 2005 this weekend. And we are planning on using the XNA Framework game production software (is that any good!? We bought a book for programming games with C#, and it appears that XNA is a good framework... although my mate had many complaints upon hearing such a notion! He had used it before, and doesn't like it).

Again, if we get stuck... I know you guys will be all too wiling to help in any way! And I thank you on previous accounts... and in advance for many too come!!!

Cheers >_<

@Clanky:
Interesting to hear that you plan to code a game using C# ( whether it is for XBOX or Windows).

Have no experience yet with the XNA framework - but I read a couple of threads and most of the
ppl seem to be rather happy with it. As an alternative to XNA I read also positive things about a
framework from GarageGames. If you familiar with the torque environment you might have
a look on the following, too :

@Clanky:
Very interested indeed! Just a question, because i don't know something about XBox developing. Is it really possible to code C# stuff (games, appz i.e.) and let them run on an original XBox? O.o

@va!n:

Yup. AFAIK it is no big deal to develop a XBOX tite on Window using Visual Express.
There exists an own Project / Template called XBOX360 game. You can nearly use
the same source like you would do for a Windows game - just some differences of
course. There are no classes on the XBOX for keyboard input and AFAIK the sound
engine is different, too !

Is it a bad idea to full program a game in C#?

You mite like to take a look at this link:
http://blogs.msdn.com/coding4fun/archive/2006/11/06/997852.aspx

Its a Video Tutorial on using Visual C# 2005 Express Edition to make a game using direct x. You basically get to see his screen, and he talks you through the steps of making the game. You also get all the source code and resources he uses. Even if its not exactly what your after I would still give it a look, its quite interesting.
