20 LINE COMPETITION VOTE HERE!
« on: June 23, 2006 »
20 LINE CODE COMP

Please note that I have excluded my own entries from voting as I don't think that it is fair as I am adjudicating this competition.

I would truely and sincerely like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who entered this competition. The code that you have submitted has been clever and inspiring! I have been really stunned at what you've managed to squeeze into 20 lines  :o In fact this has been the most successful competition that we've ever run on the forum.

Below you will see a list of posts with a brief description of each coders effect and their corresponding screen shots. Nb. where there have been more than 2 entries I selected the most popular (by feedback) for judging.

The winner of this competition will receive their choice of a post boost or a karma boost and a custom  text to say that they won the 20 line demo challenge.

This poll will run for 5 days from now, the winner will be announced when the poll closes next week!

Please vote for your favourite! Every member has one vote to cast. I would like to say once again, thank you all for taking part and thank you for voting!

OPTIMUS

This contains music, a computer generated texture which is mapped onto a zooming sphere and also a plasma background.
Quite a staggering effect for 20 lines and even more impressive that it came in at under 20 lines.
Only one entry for Optimus, but he was working on another 20 line intro so there may be a late addition to this, if so I will edit the post.

RBRAZ

Rbraz has two entries here, both were coded with Blitz, there is a 2D chequerboard which is moving around with some sine and also on top of this we have a scroll text using a tt font. The most remarkable thing about this is that it was squashed down to 4 lines!

The second entry is a roto-zoom, runs nice and smooth and includes an external image, looks real cool.

RATTRA

The First entry is a lovely sine pattern which rotates with a nice colour palette and contains also a real time motion blur effect. I really like the pattern Rattra has used here.

The Second entry here is a traditional plasma style blob thing, it runs nice and smooth and generates a circular blob pattern which smoothly cycles over time.

RELSOFT

The first one is really packed with stuff, we have a 3D twist effect made up of elastic lines, also there is a multi coloured and scaled 3D starfield, and if that wasn't enough there are even some scaled 3D bobs thrown in for good measure! The only thing missing is the kitchen sink.

The second one is really impressive and in only 7 lines of Freebasic, Rel has managed a swirly zooming tunnel with a computer generated texture. Cool stuff!

TETRA

In the first one here, Tetra has actually managed to Fake a 3D filled vector using filled rectangles and only rotating around two axis, the colours he has used here also give it an almost gourad shaded look.

The second one was probably the most surprising one for me, Tetra managed to squash the life algorithm into 20 lines of Blitz. Watch as the cells live, reproduce and die according to a mathematical protocol. Very different and cool.

TINDRAGON

The first of these two routines is a rather cool colour pattern, it is known as the axial product and in this version it moves around in a nice sine pattern, quite fast too despite being in a fairly decent Blitz screen res.

The second is a traditional effect, sometimes called interference circles, also known as paracetamol, this one has a real oldschool flavour.

XTERACO

In the first of Xteraco's entries you will find a nice plasma pattern with some black raster lines going through it, runs nice and fast and looks good.

In the second you will find an example of a 15 line C++ program using the pixeltoaster lib. It basically draws random green dots to the screen... If you leave it running long enough it might draw a nice picture for you ;)
