Spambots
« on: November 02, 2010 »
I've toughened up the set of questions that a user must answer successfully when registering for the forum, I'm going to set about deleting as many of the spurious accounts that have been set up here as I can.

The differences are that if you are a new user then you will also have to answer some security questions before you're allowed to post or send PM's, the questions will cease when you have passed 5 posts.

Cheers.

Extreme excuse to apply Monty Python quirk, Do they mince about and spam alot!

Joking aside, nifty work on defending the evil spiders.

I'll have to take similar steps on my forums.

It looks like we're running a different version of SMF, so I'll try upgrading first.

As a matter of fact they do!

I've done something else apart from the image verification and questions too.. I don't want to discuss it in public as it's an unusual step but it's successful, the only spammers that are getting through now are registered by humans. I'll PM you, if anyone else here has a forum and wants to know what I did, drop me a PM and I'll share :)

Whoa, that's sneaky!

Maybe one day I'll be a clever enough coder to send a hack back to the source of the spam bots, though I have a feeling it's not that simple.

Try this;

On a related note, I've realised I'm not here as much as I used to be. May try and code something. Something awful  :)
I love semi-colons way too much ^^;
