Ripped off!
« on: October 11, 2006 »
I just put on disc 2 of my brand new limited edition Star Wars Episode IV, and it claims on the box to be the original 1977 theatrical version.

However, it has been butchered worse than the channel 5 screening of Short Circuit 2 - a whole scene is missing!

I understand the human version of Jabba the Hutt doesn't fit in with his later slug-like appearance two films later, but this must constitute false advertising or something.

As someone who has lived through all star wars movies in the cinema , I can confirm that on original release there was NO jabba the Hutt, he is mentioned in name only. The bloke with the bear rug waist coat was originally filmed and cut. In 1977 we did not see Jabba the Hutt.

Can I have a star wars geek smiley please :swgeek:

Oh. I saw on the re-mastering behind the scenes thing several years ago how they cut out the fat bloke, inserted slug Jabba, and made Han walk over his tail.

I thought he was a stand in because they didn't have the cash/technology to make the puppet in 1977.

Mustn't grumble!

One of the things I learned in life ;-) when you have drunk so much you picture Han Solo wanking on Jabba the Hutt ... put the glass down and walk away. If you keep drinking , it can go all cthulu on you.

I've seen them, but I prefer the alien quadrilogy. Much better sci-fi, in my oppinion, though that is bound to annoy some people.
I love semi-colons way too much ^^;

I'll help you...
STAR WARS: a trilogy of films where good faces evil and eventually wins. They make some really bad follow on films in another trilogy for cash.
MATRIX: a trilogy of films where good faces evil and eventually wins. They make a money spinning animated film in the middle.
Lord of the Rings: a trilogy of films where good faces evil and eventually wins. They are making another film.

Hope that helps ;-)

Lord of the rings trilogy is the best I think. Watch that first, it's fab.

Originally there was no Jabba the hut in that scene, and instead an African man was talking to Hans Solo.
Later before George Lucas went on to make the first, second and third parts of the series. He got his band of merry men to make digitally enhanced versions of the later films. And those, Im not sure if they were ever released in the UK. Amazon maybe able to help.

Allthough the extended editions are quite lengthy they tell alot more of the story with the extended scenes and new added scenes.
If you've read the Lord Of The Rings book or book(s) you'll probably get into it more.
