I would have agreed a couple of years ago - not any more - some of these computers they sell are now excellent value for money. You can't build one for that price with those specs . . . I love building computers but I'm not sure that it is the best move anymore!

If you buy one of thier ready made systems off the shelf you'll have no problem with it.

If you later want to upgrade your computer I wouldn't bother asking them, the knowledge of staff there seems to vary wildly. At least the ready made systems are built to a good standard.

In short, buy your comp from there but in 2-3 years when you want more memory, better gfx card etc, get advice somewhere else and then buy the parts from Maplins and then fit the bits yourself.

You could build your own for £200 less though.  Depends how much you value the support that PC World give you.

The Maxium I going to spend on NEW PC is £400 tomorrow or wednesday.

I thinking of getting Core 2 duo E6750

what do you think I should get for permance and value for new computer?

I know pc world is selling core 2 duo with monitor for £399 but it seem to me that they low brand of ram and motherboard....so correct me if I am wrong.

cheers

I'm getting a new pc with pretty good specs, hoping it will run crysis properly and i found that building it myself was cheaper than getting one from any of the companies. but the difference isn't that big and if you aren't experienced with pcs i would recommend you get a pre built one.
The main disadvantage with home built ones are the warranty is worse but instead it will probably be easier and cheaper to upgrade the pc later.

I have done building pc twice before and I agree that buildings own pc is fun because you know what you getting. Yes I do know the downside of that on what you have said paul.

If you having a window vista then it got to have at least 2GB of RAM.

GEFORCE 8800 GTS is fine for any games to play unless you are hardcore pc gamer that go for GEFORCE 8800 GTX or ULTRA!

I think that if I won a lot of money I'd buy you a new computer myself because you'll never buy one no matter how many of these posts you make :)

Perhaps we could all chip in our spare parts and end up with enough to build one.

Apart from their bundles, which are no better than Aldi's (and Aldi's support is better), PC world are rip-off merchants.  The prices are 2-3x what you can get buying online, even ignoring eBay.

PC World guy: "Can I help you?"
Me: "I'd like to buy an RS232 port please."
PC World guy: "A what?"
Me: "A nine pin serial port."
PC World guy: "A what?"
Me: "It's an old standard."
PC World guy: "A what?"
Me: "Never mind - I'd like to buy a computer with LBL technology and BRF support."
PC World guy: "Oh, all of our computers have those."
Me: "Which version of LBL do they run?"
PC World guy: "The latest version."
Me: "Do you know what they do?"
PC World guy: "...I'll go and get the manager."

(For those not in the know, LBL is "Little Blinking Light" and BRF is "Black Rubber Feet")
