SDL and C speed tests (Fire and Cubes)
« on: January 06, 2008 »
So I finally got my head out of basic and started some work in C.

I've managed to port my fire routine, and start porting my 3D routines as well. I'm currently curious as to how well they run on systems other than my own. (The output from the program will be in stdout.txt)

Good to have you back BA, and great to see you having a go at C :)
I tried them on my 1.6GHz laptop.
With the cubes I get 60-70fps.  They look lovely :)

Unfortunately the fire one crashes, and I get this in stderr.txt
Quote
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)
I suspect somewhere you are reading or writing some memory you don't own. :(

A quick tip - Please don't put sdl.dll in windows\system32.  It belongs in the folder with the app.  sdl.dll gets updated pretty regularly, and I suspect some versions aren't compatible with one another.  For Vista users, it's not really possible anyway. :)

@BA:

Yes - the cubes example works very well and smooth. The fire example
crashes without any error message.

The cubes works fine, not much fps but it's due to my GeForce 6600GT which doesn't like software rendering too much.

Average Milliseconds per frame is : 22.422461
Average FPS is : 44.598138

The fire example just exit with this info:

Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)
