Lap tops...
« on: October 15, 2008 »
What make/model/power handling has everyone got?

Mine is an Acer Aspire series(4520)@1.8gHz

It's one of the economy models.
I got it cheap, as it was a display unit.
I made a one payment deal, as I didn't want to come back.
It's still reliable, 10 months on.

Although I got what I could afford, (splashed out on an external hard drive, but)
I think I prefer it now, as I can recover Windows with Acer recovery. (as I have needed to)
Do any other models have this feature?
It runs Vista Basic and even handles the yabasic emulator.

Have a Yahappy day.
I don't know what is wrong with the world - but I know how to fix it.

My lappy is kind of crap.

It's a dell 1.6ghz dual core jobby, no gfx card, crappy keyboard and a hopeless screen. It was the worst one that I saw in Sundown by far!

I have got a Sony VAIO VGN-CR21S.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7250
GFX-Card: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100

It doesn't fit my needs really. Why? The GFX card is too
crappy and a lot of standard demos/intros don't run
on it. Furthermore, it has Windows Vista and I still do not
like it (using it for nearly a year now).

In addition, the system was flooded with various shareware
programs like 30-days-antivir software. Considering that
this laptop wasn't that cheap - I am really upset about the
fact that I bought a machine with a lot of pre-installed
advertising crap.

Would be interesting to know if this is just a SONY issue or
if other companies ship their notebooks with pre-installed
shareware versions, too. I guess those companies get lots
of money for this ?

Everone does that :(.  I hope the advertising is used to keep the cost of the hardware down.
We've got some new Dells arriving on Monday - pre-installed with XP, though I will get mine upgraded to Vista which is supplied on DVD.  That's one way of getting all the trial-ware out of the way!

That is a good reason for building your own computer.
Not that I did it myself, the last two I have bought have been dells, both have been laden with shit like MAcafee, internet trials from various isps, photoshop trials etc...

I always end up spending a couple of days getting rid of all the things I dont want off a new computer.
