Network Plugs

Has anyone here tried these?

It seems that they just plug into conventional power points, you use ethernet cables to plug into them and it turns your home's power circuits into a network.

I like the idea because it would mean that if I wanted to have a connection anywhere in the house then it's just a matter of moving a plug and it seems like it could be a lot faster than wireless.. They have good reviews but I've never heard of them before.  Are they just a gimmick?

i have installed powerline homeplug networks about three times at clients / friends in the past and i have to say it really works fantastic (Esp when there is no way to use wlan). Havent had any problem while installing / using it. The only thing you should know, both sockets must be connected to the same cable line inside your house and all should works fine

We had them at work before the Cat5 network was extended to various rooms.

They work well enough, provided there are no transformers between the 2 devices.

They also need to be on the same phase in a building with a 3-phase power supply, but most houses only have a single phase power supply, so it should work. This is only a concern in larger premesis such as industrial units, big shops, schools, etc.
