New Langauge Forums?
« on: March 15, 2013 »
I been looking at your Forum and thought would be nice if you could add

LUA

Javascripts

rather than Other Langauge as then you will be able see some LUA or JavaScript Fans posting on your forum asking questions

What do you think? :)

JavaScript was removed a while ago, but recent improvements to it's support in browsers are making the language a lot more powerful than it used to be.

I'd say it's time to consider bringing it back, but not my call, it's just my opinion.

I fully accept that the whole site needs to be looked at as to what should and should not be included.  There are problems here though namely that there are no new code posts or investigative topics by members who are trying to get their heads around new techniques.. DBF only really seems to spark into life these days when there is a comp.

^ I write the above knowing damn well that I disappeared off the map for the best part of a year and no longer seem to have much time or inclination to code.

A question for you - Is it the case that we are missing out on posts because the categories no longer cater for the work that the active members are doing, or would introducing more forums just result in some more dead forums?

Before the forum was pruned last time, we pretty much had a forum for every language that our members suggested,  including Javascript but this wasn't really used..  I might be open to including something non-specific to target browser stuff so that people can post HTML5, Flash, TinyC5 etc, but I would not consider adding it unless there was some way of guaranteeing it's support as it would just be another dead section.

If the site is no longer relevant though, I'd love to have your thoughts to improve it and make it busy again.  More people are hitting the site than ever, plenty of people are saying hello, only a few are actually posting their projects so there must be a reason for that.

I think, given the current level of popularity of JavaScript in demo programming, it would be safe to leave things as they are for now, but to make a new forum if / when it does grow more popular.

On the other hand, we don't want an over-complicated forum.

I'll try to stir up more interest in JavaScript programming once I'm finished with a time-consuming PHP/MySQL project which has over-run, as I have several ideas I'd like to explore:

Marching Cubes
ASCII Art Demo
Sudoku Generator

I know that last one isn't very demo-orientated, but it may be interesting. Possibly.

Thing is though, there are quite a few people using HTML5 Canvass and Javascript now.. I know of at least one site with about 100 remakes and demos posted on it, have you seen this;

http://www.wab.com/?screen=0

? :)  I think that Flashtro are using HTML5 for some of their remakes too these days..

You and Hotshot have raised an important question as we are either all too busy in real life or we're missing the mark with the way we're set up?

IF you going add the forum then

LUA

Internet Coding( That like JavaScript, HTML 5, Flash, TinyC5 or Whatever)

The reason why I said Internet Coding is because You dont want the Forum to Clutter of JavaScripts, HTML 5 and so on as that why it is better to have All in one as then everyone would know what Internet coding is :)

To remove

Cobra  - It is Dead langauge which is a shame

It is nice to have idea to come forward to fresh the forum up and if any of you guys got idea then please say so as that what the forum there for to discuss :)

That's an impressive cache of JavaScript demos :)

It may be worth casting the net by re-enstating the Web Languages forum, at least for a short time.
