It's probably easier to learn C++ properly if you don't have any programming experience than if you have a lot of experience of structured languages. OOP languages like C++ require a different approach than structured languages.
We have a C / C++ forum so feel free to have a look.

Start right at the beginning.  Get yourself the development environment - we're recommending Visual Studio Express - and then start with 'Hello, World!' and go from there.  Our C and C++ tutorials are a bit thin on the ground, I think everyone is waiting for everyone else to make the first move.  Whenever that happens, there are at least a handful of excellent C and C++ coders on this forum to help it along.

Welcome to the forum!

:hi: aboard Bubbles dude :)

If you feel that C++ / Dev C++ is a bit taxing, then you could always try out Freebasic as that has some similarities to the C family, and at some stage Object Orientated Programming will be added to it. And it's also free.

All the very best,
Clyde.

Hey bubbles,

Glad to see yet another new member!

My suggestion to you would be to learn something like blitz basic or freebasic, then download bloodshed's dev-c++ when you think you're ready.

Whichever path you take, I'm sure this place has everything you need to start!

I agree with Thygrion there, Blitz would be my reccomenation if you are starting out with no knowledge of programing.
There's a free 2D demo knocking about somewhere, I think that BB have taken it down but I am sure you could get hold of a copy if you look around. Besides, the full version isn't too expensive.

I don't have the bb demo any more myself but I know a couple of the other people here have it.
How about posting your hello world program? :)

You can get the tryout versions of Blitz3D, BlitzMAx and Blitz+ here:  BlitzBasic

I would go for the B+ of Blitz3d (which has all the 2d commands as well) for a start. Good luck.

I've got the original downloads on my website.

8Mb for the 2D Demo members.iinet.net.au/~jimshaw/Blitz/BlitzBasicDemo.exe
6Mb for the 3D Demo members.iinet.net.au/~jimshaw/Blitz/Blitz3DDemo166.exe

These are really ancient now.
