Hi all,

I'm woody.cool .... some of you may know me from other forums (Retro Gamer, RCM, Lemon Amiga, AmiBay etc.)
I'm somewhat of an Amiga fanatic and have made a few minor bits and pieces with AMOS Professional on the Amiga.
I'm quite good with most inclinations of BASIC and have even made some 'utilities' for myself in Visual Basic on PC (Windows)

I thought it was about time I ditched BASIC for something a bit more powerful though, and think C or C++ may be the next best option ...... also I hate the amount of 'runtimes' that are required for VB creations and the amount of libraries required for AMOS/AMOS Pro on the Amiga.

So, I'm a complete noob at C++, any help will be appreciated when required.

Hi Woody.Cool.

There are lots of places where you can jump in and code, first of all you need to get your development environment set up, that means installing C++ or whatever language that you decide to use.

Once we have that up and running for you then we can get the ball rolling... Getting help here is easy, just post whatever is bugging you and we'll be happy to help you until you get it.

It's always good to have new programmers around, your questions will keep the forum fresh and help others in your situation.

Well, this is my first stumbling block ...... deciding which environment to get installed.
I happen to have a copy of Visual C++ 6.0 .... not sure if that's gonna be compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7.

You may as well download Devc or visual c 2008, I put the links in your opening topic.. Once you have downloaded one or both we can talk you through creating your first applications.

Hey guys. Dude here from Northern New Mexico, USA (though I'm originally from Louisiana).

Found this site from a link posted by Clyde on the NeoSmart forums (of which I am an active member), and thought its pretty cool. I'm studying programming now, in the form of C++. I'm hoping to get a major application coded by the end of this year, which will incorporate sound, video (actually slide-show type stuff), among other things.
Just saying hi. I might stick around here if I can find help for doing a few things on my site...

What I'm looking for is a good guide or how-to create a php program that will grab the latest news and sports articles from the primary sources (i.e. CNN/Fox News/ESPN) for both of those things, and paste them on my site pages (with the links to the original articles of course).
