Long tine no see
« on: May 16, 2006 »
Hi DBF dudes.

Long time no see, been off doing other stuff myself and playing alot of World of Warcraft. But TTD isnt dead we just been busy with other things as any of you blitzmax users might have seen, Zawran recently starting selling a sprite module and is working on some other cool features for it. I have had some real life issues and done some work, including a brief stint as an ICT technician but I am looking to get back into some coding and having some fun again. I will probably look at doing some reworking of my old blitz effects first just to get started and I have a feeling a few more TTD demos will be on the horizon.

Cheers for now
Jon

Hi Jon, welcome to the new board. I'd seen that Zawran was busy with his sprite module and seemed to be selling it quite well :)
Didn't think I'd see you back here to be honest as Zawran posted over at the old board saying that he was going to be busy from now on with other projects but I did wonder what had happened to you.

Glad to hear that you are ok and let's hope that you get your IDE out and start coding some demos again :)

Hi there. As Jon says I have been a busy bee with some BlitzMax projects. I am quite pleased with the result and so far a good handful of people have decided to see if its something they can use as well. I am busy working on some helper applications plus two addon modules, one handling particle emitters and another one to control buttons and player interaction.

I have been thinking about getting back to making some kind of demo/intro type stuff, but just haven't had the time lately. But I do expect that its something I might dabble with really soon though. I got a new place to live, a new job and a bunch of new equipment to play with. So its not like I don't know what to do with my sparetime :)

I was at some point thinking that this whole basic language demo thing was a thing of the past, but it looks like you are willing to breath life back into it, and I honestly wouldn't mind pitching in where I can.

I am sticking with BlitzMax which I think is a really great language to code with, and I am now using openGL as the render api, which have great potential for some really cool effects, once I get deeper into it. So far I have mainly focused on hardware accellerated 2D, but I have done a number of small test with 3D stuff as well and almost got my old Blitz vector library converted. I just need to work a little more on lights which is a tough thing to get right using openGL, well at least I think it is :)

Its interesting to see what you all are making with the various languages, and I will keep an eye out on what you are releasing. Due to time restraints I probably won't be posting much as I don't have too much time to surf the forums these days, but I will contribute if I feel that I have something worth sharing.

Best of luck with it all to everyone.

Cheers,
Johnny

Well, feel free to pitch in wherever you feel like and welcome to the new place.
It's funny that I came back myself but I don't think I could ever give up on this place, it's part of me now.

Truely staggering that you've had to move house again!
Jeez, that must be at least the third time you've moved since I knew you.

I am on the Blitzmax bandwagon but I still have C/C++ stuff in various states as well. I have found Bmax to be a good step past the old basic and at first a tad strange but after a few days and some pointers from Zawran I soon got a few things going. Noe I am looking at my old b2d code and woking on making bmax versions of the most useful functions I had, some stuff is easy to convert but other stuff requires a tad more thinking about but it's all good fun. Just need to stop playing WoW and code something  ;D

There's some pretty good Bmax stuff around. I very nearly bought a copy of it but decided not to at the last minute before my credit card came out. The problem I have with Blitz is that B3D was not very well supported, I really hope that Bmax is kept updated.

I bought it when it first arrived, and haven't looked at it, as the user manual is to put it nicely, pants.
But, yes there are some cool demos and stuff made with it.
