@Loopy - From what i've heard, the different platforms will have some exclusive content which could be made available for other platforms sometime later as downloadable.

@Jim - Nice one, did you get a game with it?

I am very happy with mine so far. I have bought Motorstorm and Resistance: Fall of Man and both titels are really great. Motorstorm is fast paced desert race with all kinds of vehicles and is a lot of fun especially in multiplayer. Resistance is a first person shooter, and I was a bit uncertain that I would like fps games on a console, I had never tried before and always believed that a keyboard and mouse is needed. But I was pleseantly surprised and it only took about an hour to get a lot more comfortable with the controls. My brother and I played Resistance for 13 straight hours only taking a short break to get something to eat. :)

@zawran:
I am getting jealous. Sounds really cool - but un / fortunately - no time and money
for sitting 13 hrs non-stop in front of a game on whatever console it runs.

Nevertheless - sounds liks big fun ... hope still visit this board regulary ;)

It wasn't ment to be 13 hours, but once we got started and we got used to the controls, we just wanted to see what would come next. Fortunately it was on saturday and my brothers girlfiend wasn't home, so we had the time :) But yeah, its also rare that I have so much time in one sitting to do something like that.

Resistance would be the main reason right now to get a ps3, it's made by insomniac games, so it's gotta be good!
I love semi-colons way too much ^^;

I got Sonic and Fall of Man.  There are hardly any games available here.  Toys R Us had a really good deal on (console, 2 games, $900 vouchers for $1100), but they've totally sold out of games and it'll be weeks before they get a lot more.  I couldn't imagine getting the console on its own - it doesn't even come with a demo disk, you have to download it all!
Only Big W here seems to be taking the launch seriously, KMart and Target all have some games and cosoles in but they look like they don't care.  2 display boxes and a handful of games.  No posters, no standees, nothing.  Harvey Norman had a huge display, but no games, no price list or special offer, and they had the music turned up too loud, so I left there quickly.

Only comment on the games so far - for some reason the sound in the FMV at the start of Sonic is all stuttery which was a really bad start :(  The console itself looks beautiful and weighs a ton.

Now I need to save up for a 1080p telly, 576i looks just like PS2.

I heard the new sonic was really shit, and I mean really. This is coming from hardcore sonic fans like myself. We want to like the game, but... it sucks.

It's shit.  I agree.  I might persevere to see where I can get to.  The loading times are really annoying.

Good thing is, if you have decent broadband, is there's gigs of free stuff to download from Sony, and you can download it all in the background while you're playing.

576i isn't great looking I will agree. Fortunately I just got my HDMI-DVI converter plug today, so I can run it in 1080p on my 24 inch lcd I usually use for the pc. The two games I have so far only supports 720p, but its much better looking that the 576i I was looking at until now via the composite input. During the weekend I was playing with my brother on his 720p dlp projector, and it really looked great and even with split screen during Resistance, we still had plenty of pixels to provide us with a decent looking screen.

That's interesting that the resolution is getting better on the ps3, I have been so out of the loop for so long now, I hadn't even considered that the screen resolution was getting better.

When the first next gen consoles came out, dreamcast, ps1 etc it used to be much vaunted how many triangles they could draw in a second, now I guess that as the consoles are more powerful, the resolution is becomming more important..

Xbox360 was 1080i (1920x1080 interlaced) and now I think it does 1080p (1920x1080 progressive).  PS3 goes up to 1080p.  Interlaced means that it displays the even lines of the screen on one frame, and the odd lines on the next frame.  Progressive means it shows all 1080 lines every 24/25/30th of a second.  Normal PAL tellys are 576i - that's 288 lines each frame @30fps.  So there's a long way to go up with a new telly.  The composite output of PS3 is pretty good - I'm going to get a component cable and see if I can persuade my kit to do 576p, but I'm not too hopeful.  Should get a slightly better picture though.  Theoretically, component can handle 1080p.

So far it's cool.  Hardly any games available for it here though.  And I'm waiting for Sony to send me my blu-ray edition of Casino Royale to try out the player.  I got a component cable and the picture improved a bit, but I need to upgrade all my other kit to get the best out of it (TV, AV Amp).  It really has so much potential I want to see where Sony are going with it.  Perhaps if you're short of cash you can hold off buying the console until something spectacular happens.

You can install a lot of Linuxes.  Gentoo, Ubuntu, Red Hat, SUSE - apparently the basic PPC Linux Kernel has been taken off death row and added to the 'officially unsupported' list, due to PS3.  Is that a good thing I wonder?!

You will be able do programming in PS 3 if Linuxes.  Gentoo, Ubuntu, Red Hat, SUSE allow you do so.

Right, it's a full blown Linux and you have access to gcc and a number of dev kits to get at the CPU cores.  The biggest pain is that you can't get at the display processor, so it only has framebuffer graphics...
Also, the wireless network doesn't work yet, though I think Sony plan to fix this.

The killer app for PS3 is to make it a media centre.  Until the wireless works, and someone can port a decent media player that can run in TV modes, Linux is a bit futile.  Work is afoot...http://freevo.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html...yes please!

Long weekend coming up - I might have a go at loading it.  I partitioned the PS3 drive ready for it before I did anything.
