Beginer to Freebasic need help.
« on: March 19, 2007 »
For the past year ive been using Visual Basic 6 and done Apod 1 + 2 and the newsletter reader which is ok ... But id like to do more "demo" style effects and VB6 aint no good for it.....

I like the look Freebasic and want to start learning it.
Qbasic is similar i heard but ive never used that either so ill be starting from scratch.
(i think its qbasic anyways)

Some tutorials to start me off from the basic hello world,  opening screens is what i need and also
i have problems with types and arrays ...

Any help , links would be appreciated :)

Shockwave did some excelent beginners tutorials on freebasic. You will find them on the front page, there is a link for tutorials. Or you can follow this link: http://dbfinteractive.com/index.php?cat=127

There are already also some threads here in the freebasic section which have some great info. Best of luck with your jump into demo coding, I can assure you that its a lot of fun once you get started and this is a great community to get help from.

You'd like to start with Freebasic? Great :D

I could help you, since I'm a beginner too, if you have any questions I'd be happy to help you!

Bdw, if you need some tutorials on the basic language, you can also use the qbasic tuts, since freebasic is in most of its functions compatible to qbasic!

Hi Codeman, if you follow my fthe tutorials I have put up already, you will at least be able to get a scrolltext working :) Then I'd suggest you post questions on the parts of the listings that are puzzling you.

The dim command means to decalre a variable or an array, an integer is a variable that can only hold a whole number.

Where you see something like;

dim as uinteger buffer ( 800 * 600 )

That means create an array with 800 * 600 elements called "buffer" and they are uintegers  (unsigned whole numbers, ie. they must be positive numbers).

Keep on it and post your questions, the more you ask the more we can help.
