Things aren't the same on the PC Bill. I used to enjoy making gfx, nowadays I just find it fucking confusing. All the stuff I put in that logo was using built in photoshop effects, it was more like writing a progaram than drawing something artistic.

I think the PC has killed pixel art! I was a gfx artist long before I did programming, now I could never go back to art.

Yeah looking back at Amiga days - I think it was more satisfying doing stuff in DPaint than PS.

I'm really surprised noone has done a perfect clone of DeluxePaint for Windows.  That was the ultimate pixel pushing package.  I've seen loads of efforts, but they always get something wrong, eg. Oh, I decided the way the palette used to work was bad.  WRONG!

Nothing will ever beat Dpaint 3. I used Dpaint 4, but shade mode was not as good, it seemed to run slower and offered less control.

I'd pay $60 for a perfect Dpaint 3 on the PC.

clipping in on the cusp of things here, but towards the end of my pixeling days on the Amiga i used Brilliance it was in my opinion better than dpaint 4 onwards!

i know i'm very late on this post but for me the last couple of years on Amiga Dpaint went to hell and Brilliance 1 and 2 took over for me! dpaint 4 and 5 had colour clash on ham8 etc wtf back to speccy days lol:) (i guess ham8 on brilliance would have been much the same but i was never asked to do anything in that ;))

upto dpaint 3 i was loyal and i wouldnt use anything else however Brilliance 1 & 2 almost copied the shortcut keys that dpaint had so i was at home straight away and the palette editor had some very clear advantages i loved it i lapped it up ;)

As far as i am concerned the PC has never had a decent pixel art package because the graphics allways worked a different way! maybe in the last few years has been one but not back then! remeber the short commings of trying to pixel with a cabled pc mouse in win95 @ best forget doing pixels on that lol:) even worse in a dos enviro i used to do graphics for nascar racing and geoff crammonds grand prix 2 on amiga and transfer them over via twin etc loL:)

time for a funny little story regarding deluxe paint! way back in 91/92 maybe i used to phone my m8 who used to travel to where i lived and we'd play puter games etc! anyway i fucked up my dpaint 2 disks so i phoned my m8's house and his gran answerd, i asked if gav my m8 could fetch his deluxe paint disks! Later that night his gran asked him if he could fetch the DULUX paint loL:)

Dulux Paint :) Hehe.

You're right about Dpaint4, I always prefered 3 myself. I never used Brilliance.. For a long time the big two were Photon Paint and Deluxe paint. Photon Paint was the original paint package for HAM...

Dpaint was always easier to use than Photon paint though.

Colour clash in Ham modes would be caused by the way that the Amiga generated HAM picture displays.

HAM - Hold And Modify - great idea, at each pixel you could either pick one of 16 user defined base colours, or you could pick the colour of the previous pixel with either the red, green, or blue Modified and the other two components Held.
