From what I have heard flash memory can only be written to a certain number of times. After that it just suddenly dies and you got to get a new one. Personally I have always lost my USB drives before that could happen to me. Have you had your pen drive for long hotshot?

Hotshot,

I used to do all my work on flash drives for 2 years then one day - blank - everything gone. I tried flash memeory recovery tools but nothing worked. In the end I downloaded a hex editor and began stepping through the drive in ascii mode, looking for blocks of text and slowly, slowly reconstructing all my source I had lost. It took me a whole weeknd of work to recover stuff.

If you have lost images or music or similar I think its easy to recover them using tools but if its data or text files, I can help you recover if the stuff is ciritcal but it takes a long, long time.

I trust mine(or trusted it until now ;D) and hope it's got a while left
If not, I've got all my stuff on my hard drive and some important stuff on other places.
So if mine dies I'm not gonna be too sad

for some reason the flashdrive can appear empty on one computer and everything can be visible on another I had this problem once when a friend wanted a copy of hoversnap program I put it on my flashdrive and when I got to his place his computer showed it to be empty when I got home everything was back again this happened again with the same friend but the second time only some things showed up on his pc most was not there

I normally just pull the drive out when the light stops flashing, because Windows doesn't cache the files it's saving in RAM (unlike on other OSs), which means the files should be on the disk.  Sometimes, rarely, that does wrong though, and you should use the 'safely remove' icon in the tool tray to eject the flash drive and make sure everything's written properly.

If I remmeber well , I have used My flash 4 or 5 times then I stopped using  it , and originally I used it in transferring data between several machines.

The question is , why you use a flash memory , and how important the data you work with , is it really deserve to use it or not.

I think it is definately worth using (though for the purpose of backing up data is a bad idea). there are plenty of bonuses to it like fast loading times and universally portable accross systems and it is rewriteable so that is why it has become a standard. to use cd's for this same purpose would not be as efficient by the time you erased the old data and burned the new image on a cd you could have had the files uploaded onto many systems using usb. I dont think the cons are enough to turn me off

Agree with you rain_storm.

So the main usage of flash memory is the fast transferring data between many compatible or incompatible system .
