Actually, I believe DBF's old No-3D was done on a 100mhz machine....and I used to code all my old stuff until about a year ago on a 266mhz machine. Now I use a PIII 750mhz for software rendered works and my PII 650mhz w/ NVidia mx 4000 64m gfx card (damn, I need to upgrade :P)

Thygrion, I don't think that the PC parabellum was using was quite as bad as that, but it certainly wasn't far off.

It only just had enough power to be able to run Blitz! I remember the way that Parabellum's computer used to be when we were chatting on MSN, he'd crash his computer on average once every 15 minutes and it would take at least 5 minutes to re-boot. It was really bad.

A really powerful PC can be a curse when coding software rendered stuff, I would agree with Thygrion, the more poor your setup, the better it makes you as a programmer.

You know damn well that if your work runs fast on a crappy computer that everyone will be able to run it, that's why No 3D could run on really, really, really modest systems without ever dropping a frame.

As far as library computers being a joke is concerned, I believe that they are free to use for everyone? They don't need to be state of the art machines for people to come in and do a little bit of surfing and word processing etc.. I don't think you're allowed to install things on them, let alone play demos or games.

Hotshot, you've posted here about once a month saying you are going to get this and that computer for yourself, perhaps it's time you put your money where your mouth is and finally bought one :)

Either that, or take out a load of library books and forget to return them for a few years.  Then they can buy a new PC with the fines.

Our computers in our library (at the uni) are P4's which - are actually really fast. They run all the demos ive downloaded of here. Nice.
The ones at our local community librarys are the same.
