Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family
« on: September 12, 2007 »
I recently updated my video driver (above card), and tried to play some games, I think it kinda lost its aspect ratio... I can't play most of my games any more (because it doesn't take up the whole screen, it has a huge black boarder.

I was wondering whether it will be because of the driver... or if some setting is broken!?

This might be of use to you dude. Maybe it's the refresh rate / hertz. Or you might need to re-adjust your monitor settings for the screen width and height.

Well, its a laptop, and the Graphic Properties through INTEL only has 60Hz, and the best resolution I can get is 1280x800and 32 Bit. Hmmm... it's a 224Mb card...

1280x800 sounds right - on laptops the cards only ever do resolutions up to the physical resolution of the screen.  There's probably a setting in the driver somewhere that says whether to stretch 640x480 up to 1280x800 or whether to letterbox it.

There was a setting for Aspect Ratio, saying: Centre Desktop (with border), and Full Screen (no border)... the first one was selected... so! I'm guessing that it was producing a border when the resolution set by the game changed the resolution of the video aspect property... hmm, I'll try it out, as I am in class at the moment haha, so... if it works, I guess this will be the last you hear of this lol... if not! Expect a reply! LOL.

Thanks guys!!!

OK! Worked. Nice. But, one of my games is still saying (Cannot convert resolution to 1640x780 (or something) and 16...(something) colour. Please change your desktop settings.)
Hmmm.... it was working when I first installed it. Then I was playing and it crashed... should I reinstall it?

That res is probably too high for your laptop, or just plain weird enough that the video scaler can't handle it.  You might need to delete the game's configuration file - if you can find it - or try cleaning it off and reinstalling.
