Hmm ... I think the letters are not consequent enough in their appearance. I am not a
designer of typographic stuff at all - but I think there should be some design rule
when creating letters.

For example, the space like the "hole" of the letter A is filled with white. So
you could assume that all space which actually doesnt belong the the letter itself
but is surrounded by the letter is filled white. This rule is also valid by the letter
B, D and P.

But then - looking at letter O this rule doesnt count any more ... so maybe the
font looks more as a unit when you set up yourself some design rules and try to stick
to them.

Just my 2cts.

They are a bit simple, I know Im not a king with font creation but you shouldnt start out with the hardest stuff because soon or late when you fail you will think "Oh, I cant do it". I recommend you to start with a pixelfont and then set up some rules like. From the upper right corner I remove 1 pix, in the middle of the letter i add an extra pixel from the upperside. I know it sounds weird but this works for me everytime. You can also workout from one letter like you have the A you copy it and modify it till it looks like the B but in the same style.

As I said before Im not an elite with font creation, I just made my first one so if I'm wrong with anything then correct what I said. I think there is one golden rule, always create the letters in the same style, but some are easier then the others. But sometimes you'll have to face it that a letter is too hard to get in the style and have to deal with it.

Sorry Hotshot, I wouldn't be much of a friend to you if I told you that this font was good because it's not...

Start with a simple outline for each letter first so that you get all the characters consistent before you add the detail, or better still get a gfx artist.. Or use a font from the web, there are thousands.

When I make a font, I often start with a small grid ( 5x5 or 5x7 ) draw the basic shapes, then make the curves needed, paste them where needed, then it's time to add texture and polish the lighting.

If this was your first font then this one is hard for sure because the rest of the letters must all be in the same style. I reccomend you to start off with bitmap fonts, they are easy to do and its a good way to practise on your style skill. An another good way to start is, draw some letters on raster paper (0.5cm X 0.5cm) that helped me out and its a real great way to practise. By drawing your idea's on paper, it will stimulate your imagination.

Hmm. I don't think any of them are really suitable Hotshot.
You should go and find a font online and use that instead or read some of the advice that has been offered to you by the others. They are trying to help you.

You are trying to start with the hard stuff right away, dont do that. Soon or late you will get stuck and then you will thinking about giving up, I almost did when I started with gfx.

About what I said in my older post, there are 2 kind of raster paper you must use paper with small rasters not the big one. Try that first, its better and easy to draw on paper then draw on a computer. I think thise will be very usefull in the future.

As shockwave said, you shouldnt give them a color and also you shouldt create half of work because you will also create the rest of the alphabet and the grades + special characters. Its better to start out with small fonts, because they are easy to do and you will get more to know about styling.

Here check this out:
http://www.dafont.com/bitmap.php?page=1&nb_ppp_old=10&text=Type+your+text+here&nb_ppp=50&psize=m&classt=pop

Now you're having a clue about the "bitmap fonts" I mentioned

Hey P43,
Thank you for great link as the fonts is so much better than mine! I would love to be artist but it take time and skills to do drawing sprites or fonts or whatever is. I do know it isnt easy to do but at least I am trying. Shocky is good doing fonts which why he practice and practice doing the fonts.

My Step dad used to say "The more you practice, it will be perfect!  :kewl: :kewl: :kewl:"

Im glad I could help you out, since this is all new for you I wanted to tell you that you're lucky you found this forum. There are many other forums where people dont want to help other people out, or will mess with you if you're better then them. I can tell this from my own experience, since the first day I started there where people who always gave me comments wich where not usefull (pouet style :), that is why I reccomend you to stay on this forum and dont go to an other forum.

And dont share imporant files such as fonts, datafiles, source files on open public, share them only with people you trust. The reason why I said this is, long time ago I was visiting a WWW releasegroup forum. First I tought they are fair people and will always credit you but I was totally wrong about them. Since the first time when I created a tutorial (it was a webslicing/ps tutorial), first the admin asked me if he could add it to his tut section he said he will credit me. Well, he didnt even gave me the full credit and he changed the file name. When I asked him to change it he didnt even respond on my messages. Later, I saw many skins on totally untalented people, all with exact the same settings as I used for a very very simple tutorial, and I didnt even get a credit.

So be carefull and dont make the same mistake as me by hanging around on lame forums. I think this forum is much better and it had skilled members compared to WWW release crews wich dont even credit the Chip Musician. That is one of the main reason why many oldskool crackers thinks the cracking scene of now sucks, I totally agree with them. I dont know if the admins will allow me to post some of the bad gfx I saw. But if I can you will see it by your self.

If you have sense for art and respect people you will sure make it. But the bitmap fonts they are not hard to create, in fact I think its possible to create one within 30 minutes.
