Vista prompted me to install 'Window's Update' updates... so, I clicked: "OK"
Downloads the installs, installs 4 of the 5 updates, then gets to the most important driver: SPFIF Interface - Conexant High Definition Audio driver... and bam! "Windows Driver Update Module Failed and was Closed..."

It said it cannot install whilst the 'driver' (volume Conexant HiDef) was in use... so it asked me if I wanted to complete the install after a restart... so I naturally clicked "OK"... bam!
Restarts and no sound

OMG!
Then, trusty 'HP Update' pops up out of the dark corner, and says "

... Hey Kid... don't trust Microsoft! They take your soul when you update! I can give you back your precious sound... no strings attached... and a 100% Guarantee comes with the warrantee."
I again click "OK", it sets itself up by downloading the driver, and installing it... bam! Vista tells me once again that the driver install module has failed and was closed... *not looking too good!* I give it a miss, and HP is still installing the driver. The volume icon in the system tray springs to life... noise is heard... the it crashes... then it works, and crashes... then HP Update tells me that the driver was successfully installed, and hey! The little speaker in the system tray has got its fabulous volume indicators back! YAY!!! I try and play a song... but where is the music???

It's a sad story I know... and I guess it's just another day in the life of Vista hey!?... I will restart, and see if the driver works...
If not... then I will shoot myself... I am nothing without music...!!! Or I could roll back the driver... might give that a shot before I end my life

haha
