I wonder will we see some productions like these at Breakpoint this year.
I have to be honest, a lot of PC demos bore me these days. Sure, the effort that goes into them is really great but... I have to say that when I see something that's deliberately crap that it gives me a nice feeling.. Because it's different.

It's not like on the Amiga when people would invent stuff and you'd see effects for the first time, with computers getting more and more powerful, a little bit of irony and humour in demos could be a good thing.

So maybe something a bit warped can come along and win some stuff?

your thread title says pretty much everything - SCHEISSE! :telloff:

a bit off-topic, but the current demos released at BP2008 (at least those I have seen on II) are poor in creativity (at least for my taste)

It's all the same 1k,4k,2000k => a cube used and reused with pixel shaders! great!!! anyone can get this kind of inspiration by visiting the Nvidia's or ATI's website

As I mentioned on II, I respect the technical effort, but creativity-wise it's a disaster. There are billions of effects never made in a demo, easy to code, eye-candy, etc. But I guess the new-scene is all about 0.5bit intros with cubes?

Atrium was nice... but to be honnest, what I liked in atrium is more the beginning than the end: the rythm, the sync with the music... something different. When it simply came to build the actual atrium... well it fell down to nice technical effort to me and lost a bit of interest.

Again, that's my opinion... but what I like in demos/intros is not necessarily technical achievements.

I rather prefer classic effects but with a catchy tune, well banced, etc. I mentioned the word "entertainment" on II. Looks like I'm the only one with my definition of what entertainmnt is. Seriously the 4k by RGBA was a nice technical demonstration, but if I want to "watch" it, I just watch the JPEG file they give with the archive, same effect, same waiting time.. so sorry for me this is not somthing I will watch very often, maybe never again, I've seen better (procedural) pictures and stoppped being aroused by fractals at the age of 15.

After this disaster I watched again Mental Hangover from Slayer/Scoopex. Man... this is what I call a demo! Nothing extraordinary really in there, except it's fu**ing entertaining.

I guess you got my point ;)
