Showcase page now online- Portal finished?
« on: October 20, 2008 »
Hello :)

To all intents and purposes all the scripting is finished for the portal.
Sure, I will be adding other bits and pieces to better integrate the portal and the resource parts of the site togetherand there are also proposed tutorials, shoutboxes etc to consider.

When you visit the resource site at;

http://www.dbfinteractive.com/news.php

You'll see that the menu bar has changed again.

HOME - Home page where visitors choose between forums and resource site. Contains site activity summary.

NEWS - Page used for announcements.

COMMUNITY - Link to the forums.

SHOWCASE - Displays the winners of all our challenges and summaries of those challenges in a nice format, (at time of writing it contains only the first 11 of our comps, this will be completed in the next 2 days... It's a lot of work!).

RESOURCES - Contains a dividable selection of the best resources to be found on this site.

EMAIL - Contact form so that people can get in touch.

LINKS - Displays endorsed links.

Hope you like the showcase, I'll carry on adding the comps to it over the next few days, (I have problems tracking down some entries which have been lost and is causing me delays). Thanks!

Fantastic work Shockwave dude.

I wondered if you had planned, present or future, to do a showcase like Intro Inferno or Pouet?

All the best,
Clyde.

Wheee!

It's nice to get your comments, it makes it worthwhile.

I wondered if you had planned, present or future, to do a showcase like Intro Inferno or Pouet?

As Jim once said to me, the challenges are the life blood of this forum and I realise that more and more as time goes on, so the answer to your question is... Yes... Kind of ;)

I have to finish adding the copetitions to the database over the next couple of days, then I will display most downloaded comp entry, latest comp entry (will be 1st place from laest competition added), and a random one, I'll display them as pictures that can be clicked on to take you to the right comps page.

That is going to happen in the future I can assure you.

The other thing I am going to do (which I think you suggested Clyde) is to add a tutorials field to the resource section.

I thought about the best way of doing it and figured that some people might want to write them in HTML or text or PDF or whatever.. So I'll add the tut field and the tutorial will be in a downloadable zip file from the resource site.

If it's text, then the people can use a text editor, if it's html, they can use a browser.

This solves a lot of problems about images etc because it can all be bundled in the zip file.

Clever idea - sounds good!

Yes, there are a lot of things on here that did not get the exposure that they deserved, hopefully people will aspire to getting thier products in our resources and competitions showcase too. :)

Benny, clever..  I dunno, it just seemed to be the best way of doing it as the portal can do the job fine :)
Taking it a step further, threads can be created on the forum for the discussion of tutorials with a direct link into them from the resources showcase.

Just another thought for you dude, if you wanted to, you could remove the useful links section from the main forum and have that as a sticky in General chat, and pick any decent links out of that.

I asked for links when I was making the portal...  ::) Remember? ;)

Anyway, those ones on the portal are the very best links, anyone wanting their site on there that isn't on there at the moment will have to ;

A: have a tutally amazing and relevant site.
B: have a relevant site and link back to us.
C: write to me or jim and ask us personally.

Those notes are more to people who would want their site on our links page than to you Clyde. You've made some good suggestions and some of them are going to happen. :)
