Hiya Forum Friends,

I have a problem with running games on Vista, that worked on XP with regards to the Sound. At the moment when I play them the sound is distorted, echoy, unrecognizable and all messed up. The games ( playable demos) in particular are adventure games from Tell Tale Games ( Sam And Max, CSI ) I have reported this problem at TellTales website, but has been a while since a reply.

And I was subsequently told to change ( lower ) the sound acceleration levels in DxDiag (Direct X Diagnostics ), but due to Microsoft changing the DXDiag on Vista, none of the familiar testing and level changing are present any anymore. So that rules out that.

Theres nothing in the Creative Audio Console for this, that I have seen or that is obvious. And I dont know if anything like the XP specific Power Toys / Power Tools, or any other software etc, exist for Vista that work with the sound department?

And so brings me to asking for anyones help in resolving this, or know allready ( some how need to reduce the Sound Acceleration Levels ) I have the latest Vista 32-bit drivers for both my Sound Card, and DirectX.

I am tempted to do a dual install with both XP and Vista on, but a/ I dont know how to, and b/ Dont think I have the available disk space, and c/ shouldnt need to.

Thanks in advance,
Clyde.

Pretty sure there are no settings for DirectSound in the DirectX control panel anyway.

Have you been to Windows Update and got the latest drivers for your card and for DirectX?
DirectX update is here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en

Cheers Jim.

I have the latest Creative Audigy 2 drivers, and only just the other day I checked to update DirectX, and thanks for the link. Always forgetting it.

Thanks,
Clyde

I know for sure that these games Im having sound problems with work on Windows XP.

How would I make a dual install of Windows XP on my machine ( provided I have enough disk space )?

Is it easy as inserting the XP disk and following instructions, or is there more to it than that? I don't know if this will cause problems, as from since installing Vista I opted for NFS file system?

Thanks,
Clyde.

Just make two system partitions to avoid conflicts and one or more work partition(s). Install XP first and then Vista. If everything ran fine you have a dual boot system  ;D

Cheers Animal Mother dude!

Sounds to me like a backup important files and media and reformatting scenario?
Unless you can create a new partition within windows - But the problem is I've allready got Vista installed, and I'll be needing XP first and then Vista, as you've mentioned above. So to me that would suggest a clean installation.

Exactly. Do a backup and wipe the whole hd. And get the latest drivers before doing that. I made the fault to forget the driver for my ethernet card and windows didnĀ“t recognized it  :vangry:

ok, I have a problem now. There's nothing wrong with XP which I installed first, problem I have is in getting Vista Installed and without associating it's self with any stuff from the 1st partition / Drive where XP is on.

Also should I get any partition software to help me?

Mega thanks,
Clyde.

Extra Info:

I have the partitions looking like this which I setup with XP:
figures arent neccassarily correct, and arent too important; they are half of 60gb per partition minus space for installing etc

Partition: 27000 : Primary
Partition: 27000 : Logical ( this got changed when I reformatted in Vista to Primary on my second attempt )
Unallocated space: about 1200

Dont see any drive letters like C or D, I do in the Operating system though.
