i don't know if the boss (Shockwave) agrees but it seems like a nice  to have a chat system to talk in real time

i know you might say that implementing a chat system would reduce the post in the forum, but it will help people to get to know each other better and will bring them closer.

i don't think that it will reduce the reply or post count, if something needs to be answered or posted, then it will be.

I don't want to dampen your spirits but this one has been discussed loads of times before. The outcome was always the same, it won't be happpening here for the reasons that you already said in your post.

You could use the welcoming comittee sticky topic, and also create new topics about different aspects to get to know the others that frequent the site. There are also some allready if you have a look on the back pages.

There's also the shout box on the main page ( where you can choose between the forum and the resources, at the bottom of the page )

Dont worry dude, being in a creative mind and hobby means ideas come up alot!

You could also check out the Hangar18, some stuff is a bit wacky whilst other stuff is quite tame and fun.
