In The Headlines.
« on: December 12, 2008 »
Simple topic to respond to, I gather many of you read newspapers or catch snippets of the News. If somethings caught your eye, maybe you'd like to let us know on it, or even air your views.

I am dissappoined at 2 things, number one, the demize of Woolworths due to the credit crunch. What I dont understand is why the banks wont lend out money, they are very good at collecting money from the tax payer to get them out of big pooh; some ridiculous amount is being given to them. Or that some rich git, wont help them out. Woolies, has been going for near on a century.

My other shock, well not too much of a shock to be honest and Frank. I always knew that pubs would suffer from this stupid law concerning smokers. But thats not only the main reason, they keep putting up duty on beer. Politicians have yet again got it wrong big time. Let the public vote on wever we socialize and smoke inside or not, or we go to the off license and smoke at home.

Just airing some fews, and getting them off my chest.

Don't you think that Woolworths is dead because the supermarkets, Asda, Morrisons, Tescos etc.. Sell virtually everything you could buy in woolworths now?

People just pick up that stuff with thier weekly shopping these days.

Supermarkets are totally killing off town centers.

Woolies was bullshit. Sorry, but it had to be said. It's the only place I know that continues to try and sell games at their RRP years after they came out! The DVD selection is pitiful, and question their morals somewhat. I mean, they won't stock Marilyn Manson cd's, because of 'language and satanic overtones' but will quite happily put copies of manhunt 2, a game where you rip off people testicles and shove drills down throats, at kids eye level. Something's not right there.
I love semi-colons way too much ^^;

As soon as people like play.com started destroying the shop bought cd / dvd market, the writing was pretty much on the wall for them. They became a brand that had no real identity. Sure they sold a huge range of products, but there was nothing you would say they specialised in. Even their pick & mix was bettered by Wilkinsons.

I'll be sad to see them go, but it just goes to show that brands have to evolve to stay in touch with the world.

As for the gigantic financial mess the world is in, that is purely down to nobody wanting to impose any form of policing on those robbing swines in charge of banks etc. For years the finance industry has been supervised by regulators with little or no power to prevent people gambling with huge amounts of cash. This coupled with the greed of the brokers etc means that it was a case of "anything goes" and forget the consequences.

However, one of the girls in the office Yesterday remarked "There is no such thing as a credit crunch - You should have seen the queues in Boots". Looks like everyone has got it wrong eh!!  ;)
This isn't goodbye.....
 It's greatbye

Credit crunch is just a clever term for recession and it is happening..

Loads of people out of work, virtually zero houses being sold.. etc.

Someone here says credit crunch makes it sound more like a breakfast cereal than a total global financial fuck up based on greed and avarice.
