Stereo Types: Chavs
« on: January 30, 2009 »
When I was at secondary school in the early part of the 1990's, I was aware of the name chav. And it was given to people who picked up small change thrown by others onto the school yard.

So I dont know why it's taken till recently, for it to become the in thing to be, and also declared as a 21st century term, and with a completly different meaning.

My question is this, what do you class / picture a person to be as a Chav?
If this proves popular, I could start a series of other Stereo type topics, eg Stereo Types: Computer Programmer.

Cheers for listening,
Clyde.

I think Chav meant "Cheltenham Average" originally?

It evolved to mean the tracksuit wearing bastards that go shoplifting and everyone hates. I think..

I thought it described the Burberry wearing joyriders who steal cars and then get them "pimped" by stealing ill-fitting accessories from other cars and attaching them to their own, all while listening to "music" which has not come from a proper instrument and features the vocal talents of Pinky and Perky.

When they're not driving or stealing, they're in prison.

Good answers, but I would also like to add onto that 'lowlife under the delusion people give a shit about their ass-backwards opinion'.

Classic examples of this behavior are driveby yellings of the stock phrases 'emos' 'queers' 'hippy-shits' and 'get a haircut'.

They also believe they have a universal right to other peoples money, a right that they express by asking large groups of people for bus money, and starting a fight when they don't get it. When a chav engages you in a fight, they will typically raise their hands in the air (possibly an attempt to look taller and more threatening?) and collide their chest with yours while uttering the battle cry "you startin'?"

Arseholes, the lot of them
I love semi-colons way too much ^^;

A swift kick to the gonads while they raise their arms is usually enough to stop a chav in its tracks and show it who is boss.

However, the chavs round here have evolved to roam in packs, so said kick usually ends up with the rest of the "possie" engaging in battle. This can give you enough time to deliver another chav stopper, but if there are more than two of them you risk a mild tickling.

I have another definition of Chav...

Someone who Jeremy Kyle would consider as a guest.

The real JK eats chavs for his three square meals a day, and tends to over react to any form of libel.

Oh dear.

These "chaves" seem to be like white trash meets gangsta. A most deplorable mixture.

Yes, they are deplorable, I was next to three of them on the train home from work the other day, totally unbelievable how they were behaving, they were drunk (cheap cider) and swearing at the passengers and damaging the door to the toilets.

Alots moved on since I knew about penny collectors.

Has Chav also been turned into a fashion? Even if you aren't doing chavvy behaviour.

They don't just think - they know.

On a side note, I've been collecting small from the ground change since October 2008. So far I have amassed £14.

Does that make me a classic chav?

With my schooling definition, I would say to you Chav, Chav, Chav. But that would be as far as it went, just a name. So yes a classic chav. Not a hybrid Chav of the 21st Century.

That's OK. I'll know there's something wrong with me when I start attacking the ground for not lending me bus fare.
