New product... C64 Forever
« on: June 05, 2009 »
most of you already know about it, but...

http://www.c64forever.com/

Compared to other solutions for different systems, C64 Forever stands out for features which include the following:

    * Smooth setup: it takes only a few mouse clicks to install and run (no additional downloads required)
    * Intuitive, simple and refined user interface, in which player, content, database and search are seamlessly integrated (not a "front end" that launches an external emulator)
    * Built-in RetroPlatform Library database featuring thousands of titles, with online updates
    * As some projects kept adding options year after year, C64 Forever strived to keep options to a minimum, as RetroPlatform components take sophisticated decisions behind the scenes
    * If you know how to use Amiga Forever you are instantly familiar with C64 Forever, and vice versa
    * Support for revolutionary RP2 format (one click to play, one file per title, no need to zip or unzip games or manage multiple disk images, etc.)
    * Support and recognition of other popular disk, tape, cartridge and save state formats, with options to identify uncataloged similar variants (not a simple "checksum" approach)
    * Built-in search-as-you-type for installed content and custom one-click internet search for games and demoscene productions
    * Tested on Windows 7 (both x86 and x64)

leave your comments, I did some betatest...

Cheers!  ;D

First of all I really like the website and it looks a good product, I think that I would like to try a demo version before paying $19,95 for it, especially when I have Vice already.

It's a great idea though.

Yeah, you're right!

Product is quite well designed. Player interface give the ability to use VICE in no time with no settings to play with, actually this is a limitatione for the Power User but it is very handy when you just need to start some demos/games quickly without messing with emu switches and such.

RP2 conversion utility gives you the ability to recognise a huge amount of D64/T64/etc giving the ability to access the content just by double clicking with no problems for disk changes, autoload, mem settings, etc (a built-in database containing more than 5,000 C64 game entries, and advanced support for the new RP2 format, dubbed the "MP3 of retrogaming" recognise most of the available packages available).

ATM I don't know about eval version... I'll ask MCB ASAP about it.

Take a look at the http://vimeo.com/retroplatform presentation video (quite long but gives you a general idea of the product).

Yes I started to watch the video but tbh I didn't have the time to watch through it, does it eventually get on to some footage of the product running?

new release... Express Edition, stripped down version but functional!
http://download.cnet.com/C64-Forever/3000-20416_4-10968343.html

read here http://www.c64forever.com/kb/21-101 for difference between "Express Edition" and full paid "Plus Edition"

If you just need to fire-up Vice emulator in a nice and simple UI give it a try!
