The easiest way to speed up any computer (assuming it is working properly) is to add more high speed memory.

Do you have much memory on your system?

its because Vista requires more system RAM to run efficently, about 1gb - 2gb is recommended.

If you want to run abit faster, try turning Windows Aero off in the properties sheet of personalizing windows; do a right click to get this. This is the transparency feature for your windows; which will give you a bit more juice.

Btw what is your spec? as most Laptops these days with vista pre-installed have at least 1gb of RAM.

Clyde, you ninny, he says he has 4Gb of memory, so that's not the problem.

Ending programs in taskmanager is likely just to cause your system to crash, so that won't help.   Most of them are taking 0 CPU and only take up a small amount of memory anyway.

2GHz CPU isn't that fast, so if you can keep it at 2GHz that will help a lot (overclocking?)

What kind of graphics card do you have?  What kind of game are you trying to play?

Increase Caching - Not sure on how to do it.
Decrease Visual Options pertaining to the Desktop/Themes - Done that.
Kill Unnecessary Processes - done that
Disable Unnecessary Services - I got so many program running but not sure which one to disable it!
Disable AntiMalware On-Open/Running Process Checks - done that
Disable Automatic Disk Defragmentaiton (Not sure if Vista does this, I presume it does) - Not sure about that
Disable Firewall (Not recommended) - Understandable
Disable any Virtual Drives - Not sure about that
Depending on the Speed of your HD, you may find Swap File usage is more of a slowdown. - I think my hard drive is about 54000 rm speed
If you have a multicore processor, and the game does not support this, ensure it runs on a core separate form more intensive CPU processes.
Ensure drivers are up to date. - I have 2 core CPU
If running audio through a chip-based onboard codec suite rather than a dedicated card, better results may be obtained by disabling the sound device.
Keep system cool. - yeah I think I have get new Cooler underneat the Laptop.

I have click performance tool and my vista is running faster but when come to game....it freeze every now and then....could be my slow hard drive as never happen before until now!

What kind of graphics card do you have?    Mobile intel 4 series express chipset family

What kind of game are you trying to play?

ZERO Hour

System requirements    Windows 98/2000/ME/XP or Mac OS X
800 MHz Processor
128 MB RAM
8x CD-ROM Drive
32 MB DirectX 8-compatible Graphics card
DirectSound-compatible Sound card

I dont know why my game freeze every now and then when i have 2GHZ and 4GB RAM!

Actually, every accelerated demo I've produced seems to run poorly on Vista. I would suspect drivers, but more in the realm of things you can fix (besides updates) I'm with Jim on overclocking. I'm running a 2.4ghz single-core but it's overclocked to 3ghz.

Personally speaking I wouldnt have ever have 14-24 programs running at once; i can barely manage keeping up with 3-4 my self ( FBIDE, WinAmp and Internet, sometimes messenger )

The game in question might have updated patches for Vista now try checking the manufacturers website, as in your spec for zero hour theres no mention of it being compatable with Vista. I suspect it might act up, if its trying to use direct sound the XP way as in vista sound is dealt with completely differently.

Thats why I suggested running it in compatablity mode for XP. click the shortcut to your game, and select the appropriate os to emulate under.

I had to do a dual boot of XP and Vista, so that I could play some games in my collection that just dont run as should be.

I would make sure you have the latest drivers from nvidia or ati for you gfx card, also make sure you've got the latest directx.

Probably me neither, but if you look under the covers, Windows is running 2 dozen services minimum alongside whatever you are doing, and then there's all the stuff in your startup folder which ends up in the tool tray.

That sounds like a real possibility, with not much chance of being fixed.
