Any Holiday Plans!?
« on: July 13, 2006 »
Allthough the Summer is looking set to be a scorcher, unfortuneatly I've got no real plans of going anywhere abroad or coastal this year. Due to my infamous back antics, and I don't own a passport. There real expensive now too.

I just wondered and thought it nice to ask around and see if you had any plans afoot for the summer duration?

Cheers and enjoy the sunshine,
Clyde.

I postponed a holiday to Adelaide in February to get my Oz residency visa, so I'm going in November instead.  Should be the beginning of summer here then :D  Last year a friend sent us pictures of koala bears cooling off in their apartment's pool!  That would be great - I still need to tick them off the list!

On Sunday Mel and I were vegetating, watching Location Location Location etc on the shatelite channels and we came across one that was all about people who have emigrated to Oz and hated it.
I remember having lots of conversations with you Jim about how much you missed proper fish and chips and the cold weather.
Why don't you come home for a break? Or is the cost of the flight / journey time prohibitive?

Not really got any plans, no. I went to a Deftones concert and a music festival last weekend and that's about it for the summer. I've got a Pearl Jam concert in Dublin at the end of August so I might just stay up in Dublin for a week or so around then, work permitting, but no real plans for holidays or anything.
Fuck L. Ron Hubbard and fuck all his clones.

Costs about 800quid to come back home, and takes a whole day of flying, which is really unpleasant.  Actually though, I was over there in April - I did Sydney->LA->Las Vegas->LA->London->Basel->Sydney on business.  (Yeah, I know, my carbon deficit this year is huge, I need to plant a whole forest!)  Managed to get the weekend in Britain so I popped up to see my dad in Norfolk.  It was freezing which was bloody great!  The English countryside is really beautiful.  Anyway, I've found a decent chippy over here now so I don't think I'll need to come back this year again :D  I quite enjoy living in Oz, but it's the depths of winter now, and despite the fact it can hit 20C at lunchtime, the days are really, really short and the nights are wintery.

Another plan we have is to go to Goa, or somewhere else in India, but that takes a lot more planning than turning up in Adelaide and looking for somewhere to stay.

What are other people's dream holidays?  I really, really want to go to Machu Picchu sometime in my life.

Nice to see that you're still around Loopy :) Enjoy those concerts and don't work too hard.

Jim, I really don't know if I could ever be brave enough to do what you've done. I mean it's a really huge step to go and live on the other side of the world. What would put me off would be going over there and losing touch with my family. My dad has bad health so it would really upset me if he was ill and I couldn't come back home to see him. I'm sure that it's just about the most life changing experience you could have though.

As for dream holidays I'd have to say that I'd like to go fishing.
I've always enjoyed fishing and I've had this desire for a few years now to go to the Skeleton Coast in Namibia, it's possible to go shark fishing from the shore there and pit yourself against Bronze Whaler sharks several hundred pounds in weight.
I bet that the fight would be biblical!
Probably I'll not be able to afford that sort of holiday for a long time.
I've only ever been abroad twice in my life, once was to Bulgaria and this year Mel and I went to stay at Cobh in Southern Ireland. We're hoping to go to the South of France in September but it's not looking likely as we're just about to blow our savings on a new kitchen.

Sounds cool Jim. I had a rather bad experience of Camping, went in my Teens with a couple of friends. We all got Sun Burn, and bought a stupidly small tent for the three of us. But the drinking all night ( sometimes in the day too ), that wasnt bad.

Going by the traditon of the weather of late, don't really need to go abroad as it's stupidly hot. It was something around 39 Degrees C the other day in London. I know for a fact that on Monday in the South East, the temperature soared that figure. It was like being back in Spain. And if I could, I'd love to go back there as I really miss the place, I also had many good Gibraltarian / English friends out there, also met a cool American dude there too.

It's a shame I'm on benefits, as I'd really love to go to the Lake District. As many people say to me it's great, especially the first outing there.

Sorry for taking a bit of a pause in replying Dude. Just it's been a shitter of a month. I'd love to come down and see ya. Just at the moment isnt a particulary good time, lots of personal issues I need to sort out which are taking their time. But. we'll definately do a co prod together and meet up at some point.
