All time worst game?
« on: September 21, 2006 »
I know there's an all time favourite game thread, but what about the worst game?

for me, from worst to not so worst, it has to be

0 Sonic 3D (MD)
1 Worms (MD)
2 Robot Wars (PS2)
3 ... ran out. I don't get many bad games.

It was a four (simultaneous) player shoot em up with four characters called Lee, Lisa, Gary and Edgar (I think).
Excellent when four players but still okay with two. It was by Sega!
The C64 version was unbelieveably bad because the graphics, gameplay tried to match too much and becos of that nothing worked.

A lot of stuff back then mainly coin op licenses and TV licenses were really badly made because of tight deadlines.

I've had a think about this because the fucking shit games tend to not leave such a dent in the memory and I've had a hard time doing it, however, here are my least favourite piles of cat sick;

In reverse order;

3: Revolution X on the SNES was a complete pile of shit. It was basically a tie in for cool rock group Aerosmith and you had to fight government dudes with your music, I hated it after only one play I waned to chew the joypad into lots of small pieces.

2: Rise of the Robots (loads of platforms) in 1994, was really hyped and even got some ok reviews, however the game was not released for review to most mags until the product was out. The graphics looked cool enough but I would have rather had my ears syringed than play it, you could only control one robot and the gameplay was too difficult.

1: Um Jammer Lammy (Phoney Gaystation) Which was a follow up to Parappa the Rapper (which was ok..ish I guess) But since I really detested this sort of game idea from the outset, it has to be number one for me. I'd have loved to see the lamb cut into medallions after being slowly raped with a broken bottle.
Totally irritating. Even worse than Pouet.

Without any doubt for me, this rip-off piece of marketing trash...

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/hardware/answer.htm

Pi-mania...my only concern is if it really qualifies as a game.

Shockwave,  yes and no. For example when the game starts the keyboard is locked out. You have to type the keys "P" and "I" to even get started. No instructions, nothing. It didnt get better.

I suggest downloading it and spectrum emulator to find out how bad things can get. t was advertised in every spectrum mag for years.

Wasn't this the one that had really good reviews?
It was billed as the hardest adventure game ever if I remember right. There was a load of hype about it in Sinclair User and YS.

Yes thats right, like I said, I believe it was great marketing, terrible game. Look at the solution, its very few steps, just you have to make a few huge intuitive leaps and type in the number 22 to finish the game.

The whole review of the game concisted of the following;

'£20 can get you over 70 packs of smarties. Go do that, it's more enjoyable and lasts longer'

Worst games?

All games that force you to do a stupid tutorial level.  Games that highlight special locations and items in different colours.  Games that do not let you skip dialog or cut scenes.  When did they start making games for r-tards?

In my day games were damn difficult and we liked it.

Attention developers: When making a game and you are thinking of including the above annoyances do everybody a favour and keep all that nonsense in a "beginner" mode.

Not being able to skip dialog or cut scenes or intros kills all replay value.
