Light Effecrs
« on: October 14, 2006 »
Hey guys, I have a question for you gurus. I found TinyPTC for Delphi at this site:

http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~rhordijk/progs.html

If you scroll down on the page you'll see a section named Lights (under the Delphi header). The effect is quite cool, but the source code link points to a different file, and it seems the site is old and not being maintained. I was wondering if any of you know of some tutorials on this, or maybe have done this effect before. Mr. Google didn't really turn up anything useful.

Thanks!

Did you want to make something that just looked like the images?
The effect looks very much like a radial blur. Optimus posted a brilliant explanation of how to make them.

Try using this forum search with the keywords "radial blur", meanwhile I'll have a look later and post the link to the topic :)

Let us know if it's what you were looking for, if not I'm sure that some code can be cooked up for you.

It seems you want to do this in 3D. Hopefully, because 2D is *MUCH* harder ;) !

Here's what you do:

1. Create an effect and draw it to a texture buffer.
2. Now draw this texture over and over, each time slightly larger and with more transparency.
3. Play with how many times you draw it, the rate it grows and the rate it "fades" until you get what you're looking for.
4. Enjoy :D .

Hope that helps,
Jake

I found some VB code that does a a bit what I am looking for, so I am going to try and port that to Delphi and see what I get. Once I get the basic code running, I'll play around with it and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the info guys.
