POST ATTACHMENTS PLESE READ.
« on: December 10, 2006 »
Just been going throught the attachments directory for the forum, here's how it looks at the moment;

Total Attachments: 520
Total Avatars:   25
Total Size of Attachment Directory: 39462.4 KB
Total Space Available in Attachment Directory: 20777.6 KB

That means that the a verage size of a post attachemnt is around 75 kb which is fine, but going through then there seem to be some really huge ones. And I am talking about screen shots, there are some screen shots that are over 100kb. There is no need for this, you can download a program like irfanview http://www.irfanview.com/ It's free.

You can use Irfanview to change picture formats, re-size your image and even adjust the compression level on jpg and pngs.

I set the attachment directory size quite high, it is nearly all gone now.

Therefore can I just ask, please please keep posting the attachments.
Please make sure that if you are posting a picture or screen  shot that it is as small as you can make it in terms of memory size.
I think that a maximum size for a screen shot should be no more than 50kb.

I am going to leave every attachment loaded to the site online for now but I might have to delete some of them in the future, there are even pictures over 500kb on this site! Eeek!

I am also lowering the maximum allowed upload size to 300kb as of now.

The reason I have a problem with this is that if the domain runs out of space, we'll need to move hosts and I don't know about you but I think that the host we use is fast, reliable and great. I don't want to have to go looking for another host now :)

Thank you.
