[PHENOMENA] Boring Auroras
« on: November 06, 2011 »
I really hoped that I would have been able to spend more time on this but I know I'm going to be out quite a lot next weekend and time has crept up on me so here's a compo filler to support the challenge.

It's meant to be a representation of the northern lights.

The shape of the lights is created with a cubic spline, this is drawn into a buffer which is scrolled upwards and darkened each frame, this buffer is blended with the picture which is also just faded a little bit.

It's the reverse of how the real thing works in fact.. Charged particles colliding with the earth's electromagnetic field revealing the lines of force..

Anyway, sorry for the lame entry.. It's all in software of course, source is a fucking mess but if you want it I'll post it after the comp :)

Never thought Norway looked like this. The pic looks Spanishoid to me...  ;D  Anyway, the northern lights look quite cool (if there aren't spaces in between) and I couldn't even make something that looks as nice as this! It also would make a nice screensaver! ( without the music and the self-flagellation.  ;) )

I like it! Period. :)

self-flagellation, haha...

I like it Shockwave, it's very relaxing to watch and the music fits well. I like how the text doesn't overpower things too. Good work for a quickie! K++

Thank you pals . Hopefully someone else will do the Aurora proper justice :)

And I also smiled at self-flagellation :)

K+ Pad, most of the people who I work with wouldn't know what that word meant.

I like it a lot. The music, the landscape and the effect plays very well togehter. It really rocks .. and as I said before, I do not know any demo who simulates the aurora effect. So, very well done!

Just guessing, but maybe some of the following might imporve the overall effect:

  • Some depth to the aurora effect (z-axis)
  • Slower motion
  • Some blur on the effect

Well, don't know really.

Anyways, K++ for coding one of the first aurora simulation I saw on the computer!

Hehe, thx for the K+ Shockie. Most of the people who I work with wouldn't know how to code an aurora effect like that...

wow, to me it's quite more than a 'compo-filler'. really nice. like benny said it could use some blur on it, but that'd just be a topping :) k++ for the demo and the cock shave (still laughing)
cheers,

Yeah, the effect works really well actually!   O0

A few shifting colors and it would be pretty close to the real thing!

You should call this "Awesome Auroras"  ;)

The effect works well with the background image.

Simple, but actually rather beautiful :)
I had a bit of problem with the brightness of the background image being quite flickery but suspect that's just my old gfx card.
